Alberta Precision Laboratories (APL) seeks a capable Medical Laboratory Assistant II to support the Grey Nuns Hospital in Edmonton. You will supervise preanalytical operations, perform techniques, and assist with phlebotomy, accessioning, and troubleshooting as needed.
You will coordinate duties, resolve issues, and coach staff while maintaining quality control and compliance with APL standards.

Alberta Precision Laboratories (APL) is looking for an individual like you for the role of Medical Laboratory Assistant 2.Working along with other Health Care Professionals, the Laboratory Assistant 2 will provide laboratory support to the Grey Nuns Hospital in Edmonton. In this role, your primary responsibilities will be supporting daily operations in the Pre-Analytics Department. You will be working closely with the Clinical Supervisor in your daily duties. You may also be coverage for MLA 1 duties such as phlebotomy, accessioning patient specimens, troubleshooting problem specimens, and performing reception duties. You have excellent computer literacy and are familiar with Microsoft Office programs. Previous experience with healthcare information systems is an asset.Equally comfortable working independently and as part of a team, you can develop and maintain positive working relationships with your colleagues and other healthcare professionals you may interact with. You have good judgement and decision‑making skills, and will conduct yourself according to the Alberta Health Services Code of Conduct and the APL Values of Kindness, Inclusion, Innovation, Agility, and Accuracy.
As a Laboratory Assistant II, you will perform advanced preanalytical or analytical techniques on specimen/samples or coordinate, prioritize, monitor, and assign duties of laboratory staff in your assigned area. You will resolve escalated issues, conduct quality control investigations and maintain technical and operational procedures. You will be responsible for ensuring laboratory staff maintain compliance with policies and procedures and will provide coaching and feedback to staff and students.
Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program.
Additional Required Qualifications:As Required.
Preferred Qualifications:1-2 years of supervisory experience.Competency with the EPIC Information System.Experience with Microsoft Office (Word and Excel).Experience with e-people, timekeeping.Experience with performing urinalysis.Experience with the IRIS and Siemens Advantus instrumentationPrevious experience with equipment validation.
