Job summary

BayCare Health System's ER Internship Program (ENIP) offers motivated professionals a path to ER nursing through didactic learning and a 8-16 week preceptorship at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa. Overnight and day shifts, plus every-other-weekend rotation, provide real-world ER exposure and hands-on mentorship.

Applicants must hold an active Florida or Compact RN license, have 6+ months RN experience, and possess an ASN/BSN or higher. BLS is required; ACLS preferred.

Qualifications

• Active Florida or Compact RN license required.
• 6 months or more of licensed RN experience.
• Bachelor's or higher in Nursing is required.

Responsibilities

• Care for ICU patients using nursing process and clinical standards.
• Delegate tasks to health-care team when appropriate.
• Monitor vitals and update care team on patient status.
• Identify sudden changes in patient condition and respond to emergencies.
• Coordinate discharge planning and referrals to ensure continuity of care.
• Maintain high emotional intelligence to improve patient experiences.
• Uphold professional accountability and ongoing development.

The ER Internship Program, or ENIP is an opportunity to acquire the knowledge and skills to transition into an ER setting.

We are seeking motivated, mature, self-directed professionals who are interested in growing in a dynamic team and making a difference.

Positions Details

• Location: St. Joseph’s Hospital - 3001 W. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, Tampa, FL
• Status: Full Time
• Shift: 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM
• Weekend requirement – every other weekend
• On Call: No
• Always in person

Internship Details

• 3 weeks of didactic and 8-16 weeks of preceptorship
• Guided clinical orientation to ensure up-to-date and comprehensive care knowledge
• Shift: Interns will gain experience on both day and night shift before being assigned a permanent shift
• Every other weekend requirement
• Commitment: This is an hours-based commitment required for the internship program specifically to the unit of hire beginning at the end of completed preceptorship hours

Requirements

• Active Florida or Compact RN License
• 6 months or more of licensed RN experience
• Associate’s, Bachelor's or Higher in Nursing
• BLS certification from the American Heart Association
• EKG Script test will be provided at the start of the internship program; you are required to pass within 2 attempts. Failure to do so will result in being released from the internship program

Preferred

• ACLS certification with the American Heart Association
• 1-year or more of RN experience
• 1-year experience in an Acute Care setting

Responsibilities and Skills

• Works in a hospital setting and independently cares for a group of ICU patients consistently using the nursing process and clinical standards
• Delegates appropriate patient care activities to other members of the health care team
• Care for patient needs throughout their recovery in critical care
• Monitor, record, and update care team on patient vitals and assessments
• Identifying sudden or subtle changes in a patient’s medical condition
• Responding to medical emergencies for critical patients
• Coordinates and documents appropriate discharge planning and referrals to ensure continuity of care after discharge
• High emotional intelligence to create a positive patient care experience that includes simplifying medical terminology and concepts to the patient
• Professional accountability and development
