Job description

Position Overview

Reports to the Coordinator, Nutrition Services; plans, implements, and evaluates medical nutritional therapy for hospital-based and/or facility-based patients according to established guidelines. Manages nutrition care for patients receiving parenteral nutrition. Instructs and counsels patients and families on nutritional requirements, regimes, and food planning. Provides recommendations to the medical team regarding nutrition support, including enteral vs parenteral, composition, and supplementation, based on current best practices. Contributes to the development of nutrition practice guidelines, research, and quality improvement initiatives.

Qualifications: Education, Training, and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in dietetics/nutrition or equivalent from a recognized university.
• Completion of an accredited dietetic internship program.
• Current licensure with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC as a Dietitian (Restricted Activity A & B).
• Two (2) years recent experience in a medical/surgical care setting.
• Certified Nutrition Support Clinician (CNSC) from ASPEN or equivalent.
• Ongoing professional development evidence.

Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of enteral and parenteral nutrition, feeding tube methods, and interpretation skills.
• Understanding of other health care disciplines and coordination abilities.
• Effective communication skills with patients, families, medical staff, and community agencies.
• Organizational skills to manage workload and priorities independently.
• Proficiency in computer applications.
• Knowledge of clinical theory within a client/family-centered care model.
• Understanding of the metabolic basis of nutritional care and standards of practice.
