Qualifications

Job Description

As a member of the food services team, the Clinical Dietitian provides nutrition care to all residents with a focus on health, well-being, and quality of life. The Dietitian works independently as well as interacts well with other members of the care team to provide quality health care and services. The Clinical Dietitian ensures that all required documentation related to the resident's nutritional status is complete and accurate.

Job Responsibilities
  1. Assess and develop nutritional care plans for residents, focusing on maintaining their quality of life, in consultation with the Physician and Interdisciplinary Team, considering multicultural, socio-cultural, and religious food requirements.
  2. Document and communicate nutritional care plans to Food Services and Care Service Teams.
  3. Utilize knowledge of Therapeutic and Modified textures diets to support resident safety and nutritional status.
  4. Perform clinical assessments on residents, including intake assessment, weight management, dysphagia assessment, and wound healing, within the scope of practice, liaising with external resources as needed.
  5. Complete quarterly and annual Inter RAI/MDS assessments within the required time frames and in compliance with expectations.
  6. Participate in resident care conferences, clinical team rounds, and serve as a nutritional resource for residents, families, and caregivers.
  7. Maintain current knowledge of facility policies and procedures related to resident-centered care.
  8. Participate in Food Services, facility committees, and educational programs.
  9. Collaborate with Food Services Management to meet departmental and nutritional standards, including development and approval of cyclical menus.
  10. Recommend programs or services to improve or maintain resident care and departmental operations, considering budget constraints.
  11. Ensure effective communication regarding clinical issues within the facility and the Food Services Department.
  12. Participate in and promote quality improvement initiatives related to resident care and dietetic practice.
  13. Stay updated with current trends in clinical dietetics through literature and educational sessions.
  14. Maintain contact with dietetic professional organizations and related organizations.
  15. Engage with Food Services staff to meet departmental objectives.
  16. Follow workplace safety policies and adhere to the Protection of Person in Care Act guidelines.
  17. Practice in accordance with the standards set by the Alberta College of Dietitians.
  18. Precept dietetic interns when workload permits.
  19. Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications
  1. 4-year Bachelor's Degree in Nutrition from an accredited university/college.
  2. Graduate of an accredited Dietetic Internship Program.
  3. Temporary or Full Registration with the College of Dietitians of Alberta.
  4. Good communication and organizational skills.
  5. Leadership and time management skills.
  6. Member of Dietitians of Canada.
  7. Food Safety Certificate.
  8. Experience in a Continuing Care facility is an asset.
  9. Experience in dysphagia management and assessment.
