Clinical Academic Staff Compliance Specialist

Overview

This position supports over 450 Clinical Academic Colleagues across 14 divisions within the Department of Medicine. Reporting to the Academic Department Manager, the role involves managing appointments, evaluations, remuneration, promotions, and terminations, ensuring compliance with university and AHS policies. The role offers opportunities to influence clinical workforce planning and academic contributions in a collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage appointments, reappointments, and terminations for Clinical Academic Colleagues (CACs), including Clinical Emeriti.
  • Oversee annual reporting and stipend administration (~$1M budget).
  • Coordinate merit reviews and promotions, aligning with faculty guidelines.
  • Ensure compliance and reporting for AMHSP-affiliated clinical faculty.
  • Collaborate with AHS on physician privileges, contracts, and reviews.
  • Develop policies, templates, and web resources for clinical faculty.
  • Serve as a primary contact for CAC inquiries and troubleshooting.
  • Provide backup support to colleagues as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 7 years of administrative experience, preferably in a clinical academic setting.
  • Proficiency with MS Office, Google Workspace, and PeopleSoft (asset).
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze complex issues and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of AHS and University procedures related to clinical academic appointments.
  • Effective liaison and information delivery skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with faculty lifecycle processes (merit, promotion, appointment).
  • Familiarity with University of Alberta and AHS systems and policies.
  • Experience handling confidential and compliance-sensitive information.
  • Skills in drafting communication materials and supporting policy development.
  • Commitment to inclusive and respectful administrative practices.
