Job summary

Arrow Transportation Systems is seeking Class 1 truck drivers for Grande Prairie, Alberta. You will haul wood fibre locally in B train trailers, with wood chips as a primary cargo, and possibly sawdust or hogfuel.

The role involves daily home time and a swing shift schedule with alternating day and night weeks. Applicants must have a Class 1 license, snow driving experience, and the ability to read, write, and speak English.

Qualifications

• Class 1 driver’s license is required.
• Super B and mountain driving experience is required.
• Proven ability to drive in snow and other adverse weather.
• Ability to read, write and speak in English.
• Front End Loader experience is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Oversee cargo handling and secure loads, including equipment preparation and safe practices.
• Perform pre/post and en route trip inspections for safety and compliance.
• Comply with safety regulations and hours of service requirements.
• Maintain and check paperwork such as bill of lading for accuracy.
• Complete logs of working hours and vehicle status as required.

Overview

We are looking for Class 1 Truck Drivers to join us and become part of our Arrow family in Grande Prairie, Alberta. As an Arrow driver, you will be hauling wood fibre locally in B train trailers. Wood fibre is mainly comprised of wood chips, but we also haul sawdust and hogfuel. You will travel on various highways in and around Grande Prairie.

Responsibilities

• Oversee cargo handling and secure loads, including equipment preparation, application of safe practices, compliance with applicable Acts and Regulations.
• Perform pre and post and en route trip inspections on equipment operated, ensuring safety, roadworthiness and regulatory compliance.
• Comply with applicable legislation including safe operation, load securement, driver's hours of service, occupational health and safety, transportation of dangerous goods, and weights and dimensions.
• Comply with all rules and regulations, protocols and established metrics.
• Efficiently maneuver truck and trailer(s) into loading or unloading positions, following signals from loading crew as needed; check that vehicle position is correct and any special loading equipment is properly positioned.
• May operate loading equipment as per role requirements.
• Check mobile equipment (i.e. frontend loaders) to ensure that mechanical and safety equipment is in good working order.
• Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicles to the relevant supervisor.
• Report all safety hazards or conditions encountered at load, unload, yard and shop sites.
• Record, Maintain and Check all relevant paperwork (i.e. bill of lading,) and documentation to ensure that it is complete and accurate.
• Operate equipment such as truck cab computers, CB radios, and telephones to exchange necessary information with bases, supervisors, or other drivers.
• Complete electronic and/or manual logs of working hours and of vehicle service and repair status, following applicable provincial and federal regulations.
• Communicate effectively and courteously with the public, customers, and co-workers.
• Assist in loading and unloading of trucks.
• Perform periodic inspections before, during, and after delivery to ensure that load is properly fastened down and is secure.
• Ensure that material is properly protected from the outdoor elements. Tarping loads may be a requirement.
• Ensure that any debris caused by the loading/unloading of truck is cleaned up.
• Provide feedback to supervisor/dispatch regarding customer problems, mechanical problems, or delivery problems.
• Ensure that all customers, co-workers and the public are dealt with professionally and with respect.
• Train others when required.

You Possess

• Class 1 driver’s license
• Super B and mountain driving experience is required
• Proven ability to drive in snow and other adverse weather conditions
• Ability to to chain tires when necessary
• Clean drivers abstract or record
• Ability to read, write and speak in English
• Front End Loader experience is an asset
• Ability to move 100 pounds, lift 50 lbs overhead and lift to shoulder height 75lbs
• Ability to sit long durations
• Ability to pass pre-employment drug test
• Ability to take and follow direction Ability to understand cross training on all functions at facility
