Job summary

Arrow Transportation Systems Inc. is seeking professional Class 1 truck drivers to join our Fort St. James division.

You will haul wood fibre locally in B train and walking floor trailers, travel to bush grinder locations, and operate in winter weather with safe loading practices. We offer full-time permanent roles with year-round work, paid orientation, and benefits including pension and full health coverage.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Valid Class 1 license with air brake endorsement.
• Strong English communication skills (verbal and written).
• Ability to operate in varying weather and terrain.

Responsibilities

• Oversee cargo handling and secure loads and ensure safety.
• Perform pre, post and en route inspections and maintain roadworthiness.
• Record paperwork and logs in accordance with regulations.
• Operate truck cab computers, CB radios and communicate with dispatch.
• Assist in loading/unloading and ensure loads are secured.

As an Arrow driver, you will travel to our bush grinder locations in and around Fort St. James. You will be hauling wood fibre locally in B train and walking floor trailers. Wood fibre is mainly comprised of grindings, but we also haul sawdust and hogfuel.

• Oversee cargo handling and secure loads, including equipment preparation, application of safe practices, compliance with applicable Acts and Regulations
• Perform pre and post and en route trip inspections on equipment operated, ensuring safety, roadworthiness and regulatory compliance
• Comply with applicable legislation including safe operation, load securement, driver's hours of service, occupational health and safety, transportation of dangerous goods, and weights and dimensions
• Comply with all rules and regulations, protocols and established metrics
• Efficiently maneuver truck and trailer(s) into loading or unloading positions, following signals from loading crew as needed; check that vehicle position is correct and any special loading equipment is properly positioned
• Check mobile equipment (i.e.frontend loaders) to ensure that mechanical and safety equipment is in good working order
• Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicles to the relevant supervisor
• Report all safety hazards or conditions encountered at load, unload, yard and shop sites
• Record, Maintain and Check all relevant paperwork (i.e. bill of lading,) and documentation to ensure that it is complete and accurate
• Operate equipment such as truck cab computers, CB radios, and telephones to exchange necessary information with bases, supervisors, or other drivers
• Complete electronic and/or manual logs of working hours and of vehicle service and repair status, following applicable provincial and federal regulations
• Communicate effective and courteously with the public, customers, and co-workers
• Assist in loading and unloading of trucks
• Perform periodic inspections before, during, and after delivery to ensure that load is properly fastened down and is secure
• Ensure that material is properly protected from the outdoor elements. Tarping loads may be a requirement
• Ensure that any debris caused by the loading/unloading of truck is cleaned up
• Provide feedback to supervisor/dispatch regarding customer problems, mechanical problems, or delivery problems
• Ensure that all customers, co-workers and the public are dealt with professionally and with respect
• Train others when required
• Will be required to work both indoors and outdoors

• Valid Class 1 driver's license with air brake endorsement
• Super B driving experience
• Clean driver's abstract
• Ability to operate manual transmission tractors
• Proven ability to operate safely in snow and adverse weather, including chaining tires
• High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent
• Strong English communication skills (verbal and written) for safety documentation, reporting, and coordination with dispatch and site personnel
• Ability to move 100 pounds, lift 50 lbs overhead and lift to shoulder height 75lbs
• Ability to sit long duration
• Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test
• Basic knowledge of vehicle and trailer maintenance
