Job summary

GFL Environmental is seeking a Class 1 Swing Driver to join the Fort St. John, BC team. The role involves operating Roll Off, Front End, Residential and other trucks, with emphasis on safety, efficiency, and premier customer service.

The successful candidate will have a valid Class 1 license, at least 1 year of commercial driving experience, and the ability to safely handle hydraulic packer systems. Flexibility for early starts and overtime is required.

Qualifications

• Valid Class 1 Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
• Minimum 1 year of relevant commercial driving experience.
• Experience safely operating heavy collection vehicles and hydraulic packer systems.
• Ability to meet safety-sensitive standards and company policies.
• Reliable with strong attendance and readiness for early starts and overtime.
• Physically capable of performing shift duties.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate GFL vehicles to complete assigned routes.
• Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections; maintain logs.
• Operate hydraulic and compaction systems with proper technique.
• Promptly report mechanical issues, hazards or incidents to management.
• Maintain high route productivity, customer service, and vehicle cleanliness.
• Adhere to traffic laws, bylaws, safety policies, and PPE requirements.
• Collaborate with Dispatchers and Supervisors for smooth operations.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by leadership.

Requirements

• Licensing: Valid Class 1 Driver’s License with a clean Driver’s Abstract.
• Driving Experience: Minimum 1 year of relevant commercial driving experience.
• Equipment Operation: Demonstrated ability to safely operate heavy commercial collection vehicles and hydraulic packer systems.
• Safety Commitment: Ability to successfully satisfy all company standards for safety-sensitive operational roles.
• Reliability: Strong attendance record and flexibility to support early morning start schedules and operational overtime when needed.

Responsibilities

• Safe Fleet Operation: Safely operate GFL vehicles to complete assigned routes.
• Safety Inspections: Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections daily and complete required trip logs, paperwork and e-logs.
• System Operations: Skillfully operate hydraulic and compaction systems using proper techniques to prevent equipment damage.
• Reporting & Maintenance: Promptly report any mechanical write-ups, route hazards, or safety incidents to management.
• Service Quality: Maintain high route productivity, customer service standards, and vehicle cleanliness.
• Regulatory Compliance: Adhere strictly to all traffic laws, municipal bylaws, company safety policies, and required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) standards.
• Team Collaboration: Work closely with Dispatchers and Supervisors to support smooth, efficient daily operations.
• Additional Duties: Perform other operational duties as assigned by leadership.
