Job summary

Canada Cartage in Edmonton, AB is seeking a dependable Class 1 Driver for shunt and shuttle duties. This full-time overnight role runs 7pm–7am with rotating 4-on/3-off schedule, delivering within Edmonton and surrounding area.

You will perform pre- and post-trip inspections, secure freight, complete e-logs and paperwork, and maintain safety and regulatory compliance. Minimum 1 year of verifiable Class 1 experience preferred; strong knowledge of local roads and winter driving conditions is a plus.

Qualifications

  • Valid Class 1 driver’s license and bondable eligibility to work in Canada.
  • Verifiable recent commercial driving experience (within past 3–12 months).
  • Strong knowledge of road safety regulations and load securement.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate company vehicles to transport freight across Edmonton city area.
  • Complete deliveries and pickups locally in Edmonton in a timely, professional manner.
  • Operate tractor-trailer equipment per company policy and regulations.
  • Secure freight using straps, chains and load bars; ensure load security.
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections; report issues promptly.
  • Maintain and complete e-logs, delivery paperwork, and incident reports.
  • Follow hours-of-service rules and safety policies; adapt to scheduled changes.
  • Be flexible for overtime, weekends, or overnight runs as needed.

Shift Schedule: Overnight 7pm-7am, |Rotating, 4 on 3 off

Start Time: 7pm

We are seeking dependable, safety-focused, and customer-oriented drivers to join our growing transportation team. This role is ideal for professionals who take pride in their work, consistently deliver high-quality service, and can operate safely and professionally in a fast-paced environment while representing the company.

Responsibilities
  • Safely operate company vehicles to transport freight across city
  • Complete deliveries and pickups to customer locations within Edmonton in a safe, timely, and professional manner
  • Operate tractor-trailer equipment in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements
  • Secure freight using appropriate equipment such as straps, chains, and load bars, ensuring compliance with load-securement standards
  • Transport general freight in accordance with safety and regulatory guidelines
  • Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections of the vehicle, including checking tires, brakes, lights, and cargo securement; promptly report any issues to the maintenance department for timely repairs.
  • Accurately complete all required documentation, including e-logs, inspection reports, delivery paperwork, and incident report
  • Maintain compliance with hours-of-service regulations, safety policies, and company procedure
  • Maintain flexibility to meet operational and customer demands, including variable schedules, overtime, weekends, or overnight runs as required
Core Requirements (All Driver Roles)
  • Valid Class 1 driver's license
  • Bondable and legally eligible to work in Canada
  • Clean CVOR and driver’s abstract
  • Verifiable recent commercial driving experience (within the past 3 months to 1 year)
  • Strong understanding of road safety regulations, hours of service, and load securemen
  • Experience operating commercial vehicles in winter driving conditions
  • Ability to accurately complete eLogs, vehicle inspection reports, and delivery documentation
  • Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs regularly and up to 75 lbs as require
  • Strong customer service and communication skills with a professional, safety-focused approach
Role-Specific Requirements
  • Minimum 1year of verifiable Class 1 driving experience
  • Strong knowledge of Edmonton and surrounding areas
  • Previous experience operating specialized equipment, including tailgates, forklifts, power and manual pallet jacks, pump trucks, or Moffett's
  • Ability to safely perform hand-bombing, including manual loading and unloading of freight, as required
