About the role

We’re looking for a Claims Specialist, Accident Benefits, to join our complex injury team!

The Complex Injury Team has experience in all levels of AB file handling with a strong understanding of legislation and regulations. Members of this team must be detail-oriented, exhibit strong communication, written and presentation skills, and possess analytical, problem-solving, and negotiation skills. Additionally, our Claims Specialists mentor and coach throughout the COE to support staff development.

This role is part of our hybrid working environment with support and training. Permanent positions are available across multiple locations in Ontario: Ottawa, Ajax, Mississauga, Toronto, Richmond Hill, and London (Ontario offices).

What you’ll do here :

• Handle a pending of Accident Benefit files while receiving regular intake of Complex and Catastrophic claims.
• Analyze and interpret insurance policy wording to determine coverage and assess entitlements that are fair and equitable.
• Communicate in a timely and respectful manner with claimants, lawyers, and rehabilitation experts, and report findings.
• Instruct Counsel on files in dispute.
• Conduct investigations and identify additional information such as independent medical examinations, customer medical or employment history required to clarify or justify a claim.
• Participate in the dispute process on your own files of a complex nature. Attend dispute hearings, discoveries on existing cases, and case conferences.
• Represent the company in negotiations and settlement processes at the License Appeal Tribunal.
• Complete regular reporting as required and liaise with Technical Services to ensure appropriate action and reserving.
• Participate in Large Loss Meetings on your own files where appropriate.
• Complete coaching initiatives.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support the business.

What you bring to the table :

• University degree or relevant training and experience deemed appropriate for the role.
• At least 5+ years of Accident Benefit claims handling experience.
• Experience handling complex and catastrophic files is an asset.
• Knowledge of provincial legislation governing auto insurance, along with ancillary legislation and the Dispute Resolution Practice Code.
• Proven negotiation skills and experience in independently settling complex Accident Benefit files.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills across all staff levels.
• A can-do attitude and openness to new challenges.
