How You Will Create An Impact

This position of the First Party Commercial Auto Claims Adjuster is responsible for handling various types of mainstream physical damage claims including vehicle repairs, total losses, subrogation and fault determination, DCPD claims and out of province claims. The candidate for this position must operate in accordance and within all operational/Best Practices guidelines. This would include determining coverage, drafting reservation of rights and denial letters, attendance at mediation / settlement conference and instructing independent adjusters and attorneys in the negotiation and settlement of claims. Claims are primarily in Canadian venues, with limited worldwide exposures.


  • Review complex commercial auto claims in conjunction with policy wordings to determine coverage
  • Prepare disclaimer and/or reservation of rights letters and communication same to underwriters, brokers and insureds when applicable
  • Investigate and provide direction to adjusters on investigation of claims as needed.
  • Provide instruction to legal counsel to bring about appropriate resolution of claim
  • Ensure compliance by legal counsel of our litigation guidelines
  • Participate in mediation/ADR process to bring about resolution of claim
  • Negotiate settlements directly where possible
  • Issue payments within appropriate time frame
  • Operate within our best practices guidelines, including timely reserve review, notes, payment requests, electronic diary.
  • Inform management of all complaints, large losses, coverage issues, etc.

What You’ll Need To Succeed


  • Minimum 2 years of experience or knowledge in handling commercial auto claims is an asset.
  • College/University or equivalent industry experience.
  • Ability to make decisions and give directions to counsel and/or adjusters.
  • Strong negotiating skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and work effectively in a fast paced busy team environment.
  • Ability to manage workload effectively and efficiently.
  • Enrollment or willingness to obtain CIP designation is an asset.
  • Proficient computer skills to navigate paperless claim file system.
