Job summary

Northern Strands Group of Companies is seeking a Civil/Structural Engineer for our Saskatchewan-based Fortis Mining, Engineering, & Manufacturing division. You will design, analyze, and oversee lifting devices, structural supports, and mine shaft equipment across concept to fabrication and field installation.

The role emphasizes teamwork, safety, and regulatory compliance, with opportunities to influence projects across the mining and construction sectors.

Qualifications

  • A degree in Civil/Structural Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or eligibility through APEGS.
  • 5+ years of industrial or mining project experience.
  • Experience with STAAD Pro, S-Frame, AutoCAD and Finite Element Analysis (FEA).

Responsibilities

  • Tackle a diverse portfolio of projects from initial concepts through to final fabrication and implementation.
  • Lead engineering estimates, manage design budgets and schedules, and drive technical excellence while maintaining safety and quality.
  • Create and review technical drawings, specifications, calculations, and reports.
  • Prepare and review technical specifications, equipment lists, calculations, reports, design criteria, and other documents.
  • Maintain and adhere to applicable codes, standards, regulations, and best practices for all projects.
  • Sign and Seal all final drawings, specifications, reports, and other documents prepared under your supervision.
  • Mentor junior engineers, share your expertise, and help shape the future of the Engineering department.
  • Coordinate with designers and the Fabrication Team to complete engineering projects.
  • Develop solutions for issues that arise during Fabrication or Construction.

What You’ll Be Doing

What You Bring To The Table
  • A degree in Civil/Structural Engineering or a relevant Engineering discipline
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or eligibility through APEGS
  • 5+ years of experience in industrial or mining projects would be considered an asset
  • Experience with STAAD Pro, S-Frame or other commercial structural design software
  • Experience with AutoCAD, SolidWorks and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) will be considered an asset
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a knack for turning complex challenges into practical solutions
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Strong time management skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a team-focused mindset
  • Ability to handle competing priorities simultaneously; work well under pressure with time-sensitive deadlines
  • Strong ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 applications (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Possess a positive and professional attitude, set a high standard, and convey professionalism at all times
