Job summary

American Iron & Metal (AIM) is seeking a Project Coordinator in the Civil Engineering & Construction Department to plan, execute, and deliver infrastructure projects. You will work with Senior Project Managers, consultants, contractors, and regulators to ensure safety, schedule, and budget targets are met.

Ideal candidates have 1–3 years of civil or construction project experience, a relevant degree, and proficiency with MS Project, AutoCAD, and cost estimating.

Qualifications

  • Advanced diploma or bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • 1–3 years of experience in civil engineering, site development, infrastructure, land development, or construction projects.
  • Co-op or internship experience will be considered.
  • Experience coordinating consultants, contractors, and regulatory agencies is an asset.
  • Valid Class G Driver's License with a clean driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in gathering project requirements and preparing project initiation documents, project charters, and detailed scopes of work.
  • Develop, maintain, and update project schedules using Microsoft Project (MS Project).
  • Prepare construction cost estimates, budget forecasts, quantity take-offs, and project cost analyses for capital and infrastructure projects.
  • Prepare tender packages, bid requests, RFQs, and scopes of work for civil engineering and construction projects.
  • Coordinate procurement activities, including material purchasing, contractor tendering, bid evaluations, and contract administration.
  • Support municipal, provincial, conservation authority, and other regulatory approval and permitting processes.

Job Description

As a Project Coordinator within the Civil Engineering & Construction Department, you will support the planning, execution, and delivery of civil infrastructure, site development, and construction projects. Working closely with Senior Project Managers, consultants, contractors, and regulatory agencies, you will help ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and within budget.

What You Will Be Responsible For

  • Assist in gathering project requirements and preparing project initiation documents, project charters, and detailed scopes of work.
  • Develop, maintain, and update project schedules using Microsoft Project (MS Project).
  • Prepare construction cost estimates, budget forecasts, quantity take-offs, and project cost analyses for capital and infrastructure projects.
  • Prepare conceptual, preliminary, and detailed civil construction cost estimates; review contractor quotations; perform bid analyses; and provide recommendations to support project budgeting and procurement decisions.
  • Prepare tender packages, bid requests, Requests for Quotation (RFQs), and scopes of work for civil engineering and construction projects.
  • Source, evaluate, and coordinate consultants, contractors, suppliers, surveyors, geotechnical engineers, and other service providers.
  • Coordinate procurement activities, including material purchasing, contractor tendering, bid evaluations, and contract administration.
  • Support municipal, provincial, conservation authority, and other regulatory approval and permitting processes.
  • Coordinate with municipalities, regulatory agencies, utility providers, and approval authorities to obtain project approvals and permits.
  • Conduct site visits, inspections, and construction progress reviews while providing regular project status updates to the Engineering Manager.
  • Review contractor performance, identify project risks, and assist in resolving technical, operational, and scheduling issues.
  • Monitor project execution to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, environmental requirements, engineering standards, and company policies.
  • Support project budgeting, cost tracking, forecasting, change management, and project controls.
  • Coordinate project meetings, maintain project documentation, and prepare weekly and monthly progress reports.
  • Review engineering drawings, reports, specifications, tender documents, grading plans, stormwater management reports, and site servicing designs.
  • Assist with contract administration activities, including RFIs, change orders, submittals, field reviews, and project closeout documentation.
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders, operations personnel, and external consultants to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Assist in reviewing topographic surveys, utility information, and existing site conditions to support project development.
  • Prepare and update project documentation using AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Create purchase orders and service requests using IBM Maximo.
  • Travel to AIM facilities and project sites across Canada and the United States, as required.

  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations within construction and industrial environments.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Willingness and ability to travel, including occasional travel to the United States.
