Job summary

Bison Transport Inc. in Calgary is seeking a City Fleet Generalist to support city dispatchers and planners, monitor the fleet, and improve driver productivity and yard utilization.

Qualifications

  • 1-3 years of transportation or logistics experience is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Determine city pool requirements for the day and communicate to planning teams.
  • Support and/or complete yard audits and address inaccuracies.
  • Audit planning sheets for cross-dock opportunities to move equipment as needed.
  • Audit planning sheets to improve planning efficiency and yard utilization.
  • Run trailer inactivity reports and follow-up with CSRs to have empty trailers picked up.
  • Review available ABL equipment in Calgary City Network and advise on redistributions.
  • Act as escalation point for city issues.
  • Provide coverage for lunch periods, sick days or vacation time.
  • Any other duties as assigned daily or permanently.
  • Monitor dispatch sheet and driver plans for late pickups or deliveries.
  • Update drivers' ETAs in system with accurate times.
  • Monitor planning sheets to ensure bookings are up-to-date and follow-up on discrepancies.
  • Monitor company drivers to control overtime.
  • Process satellite messages as required.
  • Dispatch and manage cartage company drivers.
  • Manage ABL carriers entering or leaving city terminal.
  • Manage messages and emails from city drivers that are shunting.
  • Review previous days’ late deliveries and identify root causes for teams.

City Fleet Generalist (CFG)

is responsible forproviding support to all positions within the city team.The primary focus will be support for city dispatchers and planners whilemonitoringthe assigned fleet, looking and acting upon opportunities to improve Driver productivity, equipmentutilization, inactivity atcustomer’spools and yard utilization.The incumbent willpossessstrong leadership skills and willutilizetheir dispatch and planningexpertiseto analyze andidentifyprocess improvement opportunities to create efficiencies within the city team. The CFG will work closely with all teams within Bison, continually assessing established processes by recognizing current and potential issues and needs.

Specific Responsibilities include:
Core Accountabilities/Responsibilities:
  • Determine city pool requirements for the day and communicatetoplanning teams.
  • Support and/or complete yard audits while communicating/solving inaccuracies.
  • Audit planning sheets looking for cross dock opportunitiesin order tomove equipment back to the correct region or free up equipment based on current needs.
  • Audit planning sheets looking for opportunities to improve planning efficiency and yardutilization.
  • Run trailer inactivity report and follow-up withCSR’sto have empty trailers picked up.
  • Review available ABL equipment in theCalgaryCity Network and advise on opportunities to direct them back to home locations.
  • Act as an escalation point for issues within the city.
  • Provide coverage for lunch periods, sickdaysor vacation time for all city positions.
  • Any other duties that may be assigned from time to time, on a daily or permanent basis.
City Operations Support:
  • Monitor the dispatch sheet, looking atdriversnext plans toidentifyany potential late pickups or deliveries.
  • Update driver’sETA’swithin system to showaccuratetimes for available power.
  • Monitor planning sheets to ensure booked appointments have been updated and follow-up withCSR’son any discrepancies.
  • Monitor company drivers while planningin order tocontrol overtime.

  • Manage ABL carriers entering or leaving the city terminal.
  • Manage messages and emails from city drivers that are shunting.

Operational Improvement:
  • Responsible for working with the CitySupervisortoidentifyprocess and business improvement opportunities within the City Team.This will include gaining a full understanding of current processes and working with the Operations group toidentifypotential solutions and implement action plans to improve dailyefficiencies.
Training:
  • This involvesassistingthe CitySupervisorwith the general and specific training of all new and current city Planning & Dispatch staff.This includes:New staffas per the training schedule,ongoing training for current staff as scenariosarise, or as they areidentifiedby the CitySupervisor.
  • Any other duties that may be assigned from time to time, on a daily or permanent basis.
