Job summary

The Salvation Army in Ontario is seeking a Christmas Kettle Campaign Coordinator for a short-term contract to oversee multiple kettle locations within a geographic zone, including malls, grocery stores and retail outlets.

You will organize, direct and supervise kettle campaign workers, ensure adequate staffing for each shift, and record timesheets while safeguarding donations and equipment. Flexibility in shifts and local travel are required.

Qualifications

  • Must have valid Ontario Class G Driver's License and access to a personal vehicle.

Responsibilities

  • Attend training/orientation for The Salvation Army and the Christmas Kettle Campaign.
  • Coordinate kettle placement and staffing at defined locations; supervise volunteers.
  • Ensure donations are secured and time sheets are submitted weekly.
  • Communicate daily issues and supply needs to supervisor; manage scheduling.

Position Purpose summary

The Salvation Army Christmas Kettle Campaign is part of a century old tradition to contribute towards building strong communities by helping TSA to give hope to other. The Christmas Kettle Coordinator position is a short-term contract position. The successful candidate is responsible for oversight of several Christmas Kettle locations in a given geographical zone area. Zone locations include shopping malls, grocery stores and retail outlets. They organize, direct, and supervise the work performed by Christmas Kettle Campaign Workers. They will also ensure adequate staffing is met prior to and during each shift.

Accountabilities
  • Attend a day of training/orientation on The Salvation Army and the Christmas Kettle Campaign.
  • Provide support in getting Kettles to zone locations prior to staff and/or volunteer’s arrival at Campaign onset.
  • Ensure all Kettle donations are delivered to secure location at shift completion.
  • Communicate daily issues and supply deficiencies to the supervisor.
  • Orient and remind staff/volunteers on proper Kettle handling and duties as required.
  • Supervise, support and assign (as required) staff and/or volunteers throughout the Campaign.
  • Visit locations during shift changes and intermittently.
  • Ensure timesheets and mileage reports are submitted accurately and timely (weekly basis).
  • Remain at the Kettle for the full shift (until relieved), ensuring security of donations received.
  • Respond to questions/queries from potential donors regarding SA ministries and programs.
  • Promote, coordinate, and oversee the activities of Christmas Kettle Campaign Worker staff and/or volunteers.
  • Oversee the operations of the Christmas Kettle campaign including scheduling of staff and/or volunteers.
  • Will participate in recruitment of kettle worker staff and/or volunteers.
  • Orientation and performance management of kettle worker staff and/or volunteers.
  • Coordinate the schedule for kettle staff and/or volunteers and respond to emergency absences, etc.
  • Foster and maintain positive working relationships with kettle sites.
  • Coordinate the delivery and pick-up of kettles to/from sites daily, ensuring the security of donations; may deliver and pick-up kettles in an emergency situation.
  • Host at a kettle as required ensuring necessary coverage for breaks, etc.
  • Ensure that kettle locations have adequate supplies of literature etc.
  • Record statistical data and prepare weekly time sheets as required.
  • Post campaign; organize retrieval of all equipment/supplies from various kettle locations.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Managerial Responsibility: Reports directly to Corps Officer. Direct reports: n/a. Workflow coordinator for Christmas Kettle Workers.

FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT

Collect donations and petty cash and ensure donations are always kept secure.

WORKING CONDITIONS

This is a temporary position. Shifts may include days, afternoons, evenings, weekend shifts, and split shifts, Monday through Saturday. Applicable shifts include a ½ hour unpaid meal break. Flexibility in scheduling is required, as the hours may increase as per operational requirements. Work environment is typically in malls/stores Standing for long periods will be required and exposure to cold weather Required to wear appropriate Salvation Army identification. Local travel is associated with this position. The above responsibilities must be performed in keeping with The Salvation Army’s Mission, Vision and Values, in a professional manner, upholding our code of conduct.

Education, Qualifications and Certifications

Some high school coursework, completion of high school is an asset.

Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements

A minimum of one year of related experience or working in customer service. Money handling experience is an asset. Experience in office administration. Experience with general office equipment and must have strong skills and experience using word processing (WORD); spread sheet use (EXCEL). Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License, personal vehicle required and insurance, current copy of driver’s abstract for review and verification that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.

Ability to lift/move 9 to 12 kgs (20 – 25 lbs.) Enthusiastic Team Player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Strong customer service skills; enjoy liaising and working with people of all ages and abilities. Exhibit good listening skills, have strong oral/written communication skills. Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures. Honest, courteous, and punctual; prepared to act in the best interest of employer. Represent the organization in a positive, professional, and engaging manner. Attentive listening skills for supervision, coaching, and conflict resolution. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality in the handling of donor, volunteer, and organizational information. Ability and willingness to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check screening. Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.

Compensation

The target hiring range for this position is $18.50 to $23.13 with a maximum of $27.76. Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
