Childminder

2 Casual (CUPE Local 2011) Positions

The District of Saanich's Parks, Recreation and Community Services department is seeking a team player to help drive our mission of Healthy Nature, Healthy People, and Healthy Community, while supporting our vision: a Saanich where everyone belongs.

You’ll work within a team where service excellence, learning and sharing, and feedback and accountability are highly valued, and where communication, trust, respect, and positivity form the foundation for everything we do.

Saanich Commonwealth Place is seeking caring and reliable Childminders to support preschool childminding services within the Recreation Division. These positions are ideal for individuals who enjoy working with infants, toddlers, and preschool-aged children and are committed to creating a safe, welcoming, and positive environment for children and families.

Under the general direction of a Recreation Programmer or Program Supervisor, the Childminder is responsible for supervising children in a safe and organized manner, preparing the room and equipment before the start of the program, monitoring participant entrance, keeping accurate attendance records, welcoming participants, and providing accurate and enthusiastic feedback to patrons. The role also ensures program supplies and equipment are safely stored after each session, maintains ongoing communication with the supervisor, arranges for substitutes when required, and supports a safe and clean work environment.

Requirements include completion of Grade 10, three months' experience working with preschool-aged children, and Emergency First Aid and CPR C Certification. The successful candidates will demonstrate accuracy in keeping attendance, patience, support and understanding with children, effective communication skills, adaptability, relationship-building skills, problem-solving ability, and a strong customer service focus. Employment is subject to provision of a satisfactory Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector (PIC-VS) check no older than 6 months. Renewal of PIC-VS is required as per policy.

The successful candidates will work Thursday shifts, including 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., as well as on-call shifts as operationally required. Hours and shifts are subject to change. Although we thank all applicants for applying, only those under consideration will be contacted.

These are C.U.P.E. Local 2011 positions with a wage of $21.35 per hour (2026 rate) plus 15% in lieu of benefits. Job description and competition information can be found at www.saanich.ca. This is an open until filled competition.
