Job summary

The Prince George Native Friendship Centre is seeking a full-time Child and Youth Care Worker to support vulnerable youth through culturally relevant practices. You will provide care, emotional support, and mentorship while creating a nurturing environment. Ideal candidates will have relevant education and experience, particularly with Indigenous communities. Preference will be given to applicants of Canadian Indigenous ancestry.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years' experience supporting youth in residential/human services settings.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Indigenous cultures and historical trauma.
  • Required certifications: First Aid & CPR, Food Safe, CPI, ASIST.

Child and Youth Care Worker Full Time Permanent

Full-time and Part-Time ($27.19/hr. - $32.76/hr.)


We are currently seeking a Child and Youth Care Worker(s) to join our residential or program-based care team supporting children and youth through trauma-informed, relational, and culturally relevant practices.


Reporting to the Program Coordinator, the Child and Youth Care Worker provides daily care, emotional support, and guidance to children and youth in a structured, safe, and nurturing environment. This position plays a vital role in helping youth build life skills, cultural identity, and emotional resilience through consistent presence, engagement, and mentorship.


The successful candidate will work closely with other staff to create a stable environment that centers respect, accountability, safety, and cultural connection.


Qualifications:

PGNFC recognizes lived experience as an asset in supporting youth. If you have personal or professional experience working with vulnerable youth and/or Indigenous communities, we encourage you to apply.


  • Diploma in Child and Youth Care, Human Services, Social Work or related field; equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Minimum 2 years' experience supporting youth in residential care, outreach, or community-based settings.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Indigenous cultures, historical trauma, and culturally grounded approaches to care.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, emotionally dynamic environment.
  • Strong communication, boundary-setting, and relational skills.
  • Required (or willingness to obtain): First Aid & CPR, Food Safe, Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI), Suicide Intervention (ASIST), and valid 4 Driver's License.
  • Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector screening is required.
