Job summary

CancerCare Manitoba seeks a Vice President of Research & Scientific Director to lead a provincial cancer research enterprise embedded within the Paul Albrechtsen Research Institute. You will shape a focused research identity, integrate with CancerCare Manitoba’s mission, and build programs with national and international standing.

The role requires a senior leader capable of guiding multidisciplinary teams, securing funding, and aligning research with patient and population needs.

Qualifications

• PhD, MD or MD/PhD with eligibility for an academic appointment.
• Proven record of independent, peer‑reviewed funding and clinical research credibility.
• Senior leadership experience in a research institute or health‑sciences centre.
• Experience building multidisciplinary teams, programs and partnerships.
• Knowledge of ethics, regulatory requirements, data stewardship and risk management.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

Responsibilities

• Promote research excellence across basic to translational research.
• Champion research integrity, data quality and responsible conduct of research.
• Translate research into better patient care and population outcomes.
• Advance clinical trials and translational research, and support collaborations.
• Mentor researchers and trainees to grow productivity, funding success and impact.
• Lead investment in research platforms, data assets and infrastructure.
• Define priorities and develop strategies, governance and performance measures.
• Oversee research operations, budgets, personnel and resources.
• Foster partnerships with universities, Shared Health, funders, donors and industry.
