Job summary

A leading organization in the nonprofit sector is seeking a Chief Executive Officer to provide strategic leadership and oversee the implementation of its mission and vision. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in governance, financial management, and team leadership, and will inspire a diverse team within a supportive workplace culture. This full-time, permanent position requires a master's degree and seven or more years in senior management.

Qualifications

The Chief Executive Officer provides essential leadership in advancing the organization’s strategic direction, workplace culture, and stakeholder relationships. The Chief Executive Officer is entrusted with the fulfilment of the mission, vision, and strategic plan of the organization, and is the lead employee member for organizational governance.

The Chief Executive Officer is the key and leading role for the business of the organization, and involves planning, organizing, directing, controlling, and administering all operations. The Chief Executive Officer is also responsible for strategic leadership, collaborative and supportive people management, and oversight related to strategic community relations, financial integrity, and risk mitigation.

Key Responsibilities

Leading Change

o Develops new insights, ideas, and innovations, designs into situations, questions conventional approaches, and implements new or cutting-edge programs and/or processes.

o Understands and keeps up to date on local and national policies and trends that may affect the organization and influence stakeholder views and is aware of the organization's impact on the external environment.

o Formulates objectives and priorities and implements plans consistent with the long-term interests of the organization in a global environment.

o Takes a long-term view and builds a shared vision with others and acts as a catalyst for organizational change, while influencing others to translate vision into action.

Leading People

o Encourages creative tension and differences of opinions while establishing a safe and motivational work environment through proactive conflict management and mentoring.

o Fosters an inclusive workplace where diversity and individual differences are leveraged to achieve the Vision, Purpose, and Values of the organization.

o Inspires and fosters team commitment, spirit, pride, and trust, and facilitates cooperation amongst team members to enhance employee satisfaction and accomplish group goals.

o Holds self and others accountable for measurable, high-quality, timely, and cost-effective results.

o Understands the organization's financial processes and acts as the key oversight and financial control of the organization and works in adherence with prudent financial practices.

o Prepares and controls annual operating plan to align with the Strategic Plan.

o Develops networks and builds alliances, collaborates across boundaries to build strategic relationships and to achieve common goals.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in leadership, social or health related services or Business Administration (MBA).
  • Seven or more years of experience in senior management, preferably with nonprofit organizations.
  • Knowledge of business and management principles including strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership techniques and coordination of people.
  • Strong financial management and budgeting skills.
  • Strong understanding of governance and experience reporting to or working closely with a Board of Directors.
  • Strong coaching and mentoring skills.
  • Strong change management skills and experience / understanding of systemic change.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset, with innovative approach to business planning.
  • Strong, proactive, and sensitive human resources competencies.
  • Ability to implement operations and decisions in a political environment.
  • Bilingualism an asset.
