Job summary

Chemtrade is seeking a Chemical Operator (3rd or 4th class Power Engineer) in Brandon, MB. This role involves plant operations, tank truck and railcar handling, pumps, valves, and routine maintenance under rotating 12‑hour shifts with potential overtime.

The ideal candidate holds a High School diploma or GED and a 3rd/4th Class Power Engineering Ticket (or is pursuing one). Strong reading/comprehension, computer literacy, and prior plant experience are preferred.

  • Relevant experience in a plant environment preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform truck and railcar loading/unloading, connect/disconnect hoses, operate valves and pumps.
  • Replace nuts and bolts in pipe flanges from 1" to 48".
  • Operate mobile equipment (front end loader, track mobile, forklifts).
  • Perform site housekeeping, inventory, and safety/compliance tasks as required.
  • Work in outdoor conditions with PPE and rotating 12‑hour shifts.

Position

Chemical Operator (3rd or 4th class Power Engineer)

Primary Location

Brandon, MB

Shift

Rotating shift - 12 hours/day, 84 hours every 2 weeks. Occasional overtime may be required

Reports To

Operations Supervisor

Compensation

38.60$ (no ticket) - 40.82$ (with 3rd class Power Engineering ticket) + benefits as governed by CBA

About This Position And About You

This job is diverse in the mechanical ability to perform general plant operator duties. Work includes tank truck and railcar vessel opening, loading, and unloading, operation of pumps, piping, valves and general plant upkeep and maintenance. This job requires climbing stairs and ladders and lifting (within OSHA guidelines). This job consists of outside elements where radiant heat or cold is normal work environment, and rotating shifts.

Qualification

Knowledge

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • 3rd or 4th Class Power Engineering Ticket (Asset ) or in the process of obtaining

Competencies

  • Relevant experience in a plant environment performing similar duties is preferred.
  • Ability to use computer effectively, Microsoft programs, maintenance management system, e‑mail, etc.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, manufacturer’s literature, diagrams or schematics.
Responsibilities
  • Perform typical operations requirements such as truck loading and unloading, railcar loading and unloading, connecting/disconnecting hoses, operating valves, troubleshooting equipment/operational problems and operating plant equipment as needed.
  • Replacement of nuts and bolts in pipe flanges ranging in size from 1" - 48" diameter flanges.
  • Operation of the following mobile equipment: Front end loader, Track mobile, Forklifts, and other mobile equipment.
  • Cleaning, sweeping, tool room and warehouse inventory, trash removal, digging, weed spraying, shoveling, fire watch and confined space hole attendance/entrant, other duties assigned by Supervisor.
  • Physical capability of performing tasks in 40°C ambient temperatures while wearing Personal Protective Equipment
  • Protection such as Acid-Resistant approved PVC rain suit (topcoat, bottom pants, rubber boots, gloves, and face shield) and Respirators.
  • Must be able to work scheduled rotating 12 hr. shifts with intermittent 14 – 16-hour days for emergency operations/repairs.
  • Maintain weekly timesheets in accurate format.
  • Follow all plant Rules & Regulations including lack of tardiness and absenteeism.
  • Be able to comply with all plant safety rules such as perform tasks utilizing all PPE; maintain and document PPE condition.
  • Following all plant safety guidelines such as confined space; high work; management of change; hot work; and operating procedures.
Physical Conditions
  • Employee must have physical strength, hand-eye coordination and endurance.
  • Employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Employee is required to climb multi-level stairs/ladders to perform his duties.
  • Employees will be required to wear site designated PPE at all times which includes but not limited to, hard hats, steel toe cap boots, safety specs, safety shields, coveralls, PVC acid resistant suits, hearing protection and an assortment of hand protection.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job may include close vision.
  • Must be physically capable of occasionally spending long hours sitting in an office environment.
  • Must be "fit for all the above duties".
