Job summary

Aramark at Queens University in Kingston, Ontario, seeks a Chef Manager to lead our Retail culinary operations on campus. You will oversee day-to-day activities for Franchise and proprietary concepts and provide leadership to a team of food service associates.

Reporting to the General Manager, you’ll focus on team development, culinary expertise, safety protocols, and client relations, while helping meet budget requirements and delivering programs across the operation.

Qualifications

  • 5 years of similar experience in a fast paced food service environment.
  • Experience working in or managing in a unionized environment is an asset
  • Knowledge of computerized spreadsheet and word processing programs
  • Self-directed with strong interpersonal and communications skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Positive attitude and genuine customer focus orientation
  • Able to be flexible, evening and weekend shifts when required

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the daily operation of the components is running smoothly and be prepared to jump in and work within the components
  • Implements and leads compliance on all Aramark operating standards, Franchise standards, and legislated standards
  • Develops operational components forecasts and explains variances in sales, costs and operations
  • Oversee staff scheduling, track labour and report to Director of Retail Operations daily
  • Manage inventory controls, food, labour and direct costs; assist with weekly inventory
  • Ensure quality, courteous service to all customers
  • Work with the team to manage hiring, staffing, labour, progressive discipline, accommodation, training and policy administration
  • Assist in disciplinary action alongside the Food Service Director and HR
  • Develop and motivate Supervisory staff to standards of performance
  • Monitor equipment repair and maintenance
  • Collect and deposit revenues
  • Maintain cash handling and auditing procedures

Aramark is recruiting an experienced Chef Manager to manage our culinary Retail operations at Queens University in Kingston, ON. The Retail Chef Manager oversees the day-to-day operation for Retail components - inclusive of Franchise and proprietary concepts - on campus. This involves planning, organizing, directing, controlling, and evaluating the operations. The Retail Chef Manager is responsible for providing leadership to a team of food service associates.

Job Responsibilities
  • Responsible to ensure the daily operation of the components are running smoothly with the understanding that there will be times when you'll have to jump in and work within the components
  • Implements and leads compliance on all Aramark operating standards, Franchise standards, and legislated standards within the components including company policy and procedure, Health and Safety Standards and Safe Food Handling
  • Develops operational components forecasts each period and is able to explain variances in sales, costs and operational activities
  • Responsible for overseeing staff scheduling, tracks daily labour on schedule and reports to Director of Retail Operations on a daily basis
  • Responsible for inventory controls, food, labour and direct costs; assists with weekly inventory
  • Ensure quality, courteous service is provided to all customers
  • Works with the team to manage all hiring, staffing, labour, progressive discipline, accommodation, training and administration of policies
  • Assist in disciplinary action alongside the Food Service Director and Human Resources
  • Develops and motivates Supervisory staff to attain proper standards of performance
  • Monitor equipment repair and maintenance
  • Collects, records, and deposits all revenues received at the component
  • Maintains compliance of all cash handling and cash auditing procedures, reports any overage/shortages

The pay range for this position is $55,000.00 - $60,000.00.
