Job summary

Aramark Canada seeks a skilled Chef Manager to support the Executive Chef at the Donald Gordon Hotel and Conference Centre on Queen's University campus in Kingston, Ontario. You will oversee day-to-day food service and catering operations, lead a unionized team, and ensure compliance with safety and service standards.

Reporting to the Executive Chef, you will develop forecasts, manage scheduling and inventory, and drive high-quality guest experiences across hotel meals, meetings and events.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3–5 years in a similar role.
  • Culinary degree or diploma required.
  • Experience managing in a unionized environment is an asset.
  • Proficient with spreadsheets and word processing.
  • Strong communication and customer service orientation.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure smooth day-to-day operation with flexibility to support front-line duties for meals, meetings and public catering.
  • Manage and direct a unionized team of up to 6 cooks and dishwashers.
  • Lead compliance with Aramark operating standards and Health & Safety policies.
  • Develop operational forecasts and analyze cost variances.
  • Oversee staff scheduling and monitor labour metrics.
  • Manage inventory controls for food, labour and direct costs.
  • Support monthly inventory processes and reporting.
  • Deliver high-quality, courteous service to customers.
  • Collaborate on recruitment, staffing and HR policy administration.
  • Assist in disciplinary actions with Executive Chef and HR.
  • Motivate staff to meet performance standards.
  • Monitor equipment repair and maintenance.

Aramark is recruiting a skilled Chef Manager to support the Executive Chef at our culinary operations for the Donald Gordon Hotel and Conference Centre located on Queen's University campus in Kingston, Ontario.
Reporting to the Executive Chef, the Chef Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day food service and catering operations. This role includes planning, organizing, directing, controlling, and evaluating all aspects of the operation, while providing strong leadership and guidance to a team of food service associates.

Job Responsibilities

  • Manage and direct a unionized team of up to 6 cooks and dishwashers
  • Implements and lead compliance on all Aramark operating standards, legislated standards, including company policies and procedures, Health and Safety Standards and Safe Food Handling
  • Develop operational forecasts for each period and analyze variances in costs and operational activities
  • Overseeing staff scheduling, monitor daily labour metrics
  • Manage inventory controls, including food, labour and direct costs
  • Support monthly inventory processes and reporting
  • Ensure delivery of high quality, courteous service to all customers
  • Collaborate with the team on recruitment, staffing, labour management, progressive discipline and training and HR policy administration
  • Assist in disciplinary action alongside the Executive Chef and Human Resources
  • Develops and motivates staff to attain proper standards of performance
  • Monitor equipment repair and maintenance
Qualifications
  • Minimum 3-5 years' experience in a comparable role within a high quality food service environment
  • A culinary degree or diploma is required
  • Experience managing in a unionized environment is an asset
  • Proficient in computerized systems, including spreadsheet and word processing applications.
  • Self-motivated with strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities
  • Demonstrates a positive attitude with a strong customer service orientation
  • Flexible and available to work evenings and weekends as required
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
