Job Description

WHAT’S THE JOB?

Based at a Horizon North camp facility, the shift is 20 days on and 10 days off, with 12-hour workdays. Transportation is provided from a pickup point in Edmonton.

Position Overview:
The Chef oversees daily kitchen operations, including ordering ingredients, menu planning, food preparation, staff training, and ensuring compliance with Horizon North Food Safety protocols.

This position is safety sensitive and requires drug and alcohol testing and a fitness assessment as a condition of employment.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, present, and design high-quality rotational menus.
  • Supervise kitchen staff’s productivity and adherence to policies, including health, safety, and quality standards.
  • Lead training, development, and mentoring of employees.
  • Ensure food safety standards (FOODSAFE, HACCP) are followed.
  • Manage resources efficiently.
  • Serve clients and staff professionally.
  • Consider dietary restrictions and allergies in meal planning.
  • Conduct bi-weekly inventory checks.

Qualifications:

  • Journeyperson or interprovincial Red Seal Certificate.
  • SafeCheck advanced food safety or HACCP certification.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in hospitality/food service.
  • Minimum 3 years as a Chef or Sous Chef in relevant settings.
  • Experience with outside catering is a plus.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and GFS.
  • Knowledge of menu costing, recipe implementation, and wage control.
  • Extensive kitchen knowledge across various culinary areas.
  • Effective leadership, positive personality, good listening skills.
