Job summary

Covenant Health Bonnyville Health Centre is seeking a Chaplain for a 0.60 FTE role to provide spiritual care to patients, residents, families and staff. You will report to the Manager Spiritual Care Acute and work closely with the Site Administrator to set daily priorities.

The ideal candidate holds a Master’s degree in Theology or a related field, is a CASC/ACSS member, and has experience in acute care spiritual care. Travel and a valid driver's license may be required.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Theology, Spirituality, Religion and/or related field from an accredited college or university.
• Membership with CASC/ACSS required.
• Three years of experience providing spiritual care in a healthcare setting.

• Provide spiritual care to patients, residents and families, and Covenant Health staff.
• Assess concerns, develop a plan of care, and provide therapeutic interventions.

In this position, you will be providing spiritual care to patients, residents, their supporting families and Covenant Health staff. You will report to the Manager Spiritual Care Acute (Urban and Rural) in Edmonton and will work closely with the BHC Site Administrator in determining priorities on a day to day basis. The 0.60 fte role offers flexibility in the days and hours worked.Please note: Travel is required, and may include the use of a personal vehicle. A standard driver s abstract may also be required for use of corporate lease vehicles.

Description:

As a professional, integrated member of the healthcare team, the Chaplain supports patients, families, and staff who are experiencing spiritual, existential and moral distress: loss of meaning and connection related to changes in health, ability, and life circumstances. Utilizing a holistic and relational approach, the Chaplain assesses the nature and extent of the client's concerns, develops a plan of care, and provides therapeutic interventions to promote and engage the client in their healing process. Chaplains provide patient centered care, focusing on the wellness needs and goals of the client.Chaplains use interventions informed by spirituality, religion, social sciences and counselling psychotherapeutic modalities. With an awareness of cultural traditions, Chaplains honor and promote diversity and inclusion, modeling respect and sensitivity. Chaplains initiate and engage in consultations and referrals with other clinical professionals and provide spiritual leadership across Covenant Health sites.This position is non-unionized.

Required Qualifications:

Commencement of a Master's degree in Theology, Spirituality, Religion and/or related field of studies from an accredited college or university. Advanced standing of SPE (CASC/ACSS) required. Membership with the Canadian Association of Spiritual Care (CASC/ACSS) required.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Suitable knowledge required for working within an acute care setting, including emergency, intensive care/critical care, surgery, psychiatry, medicine, palliative, geriatrics, women's health, and pediatrics. Demonstrated understanding and ability to work in a multifaith, multicultural and multidisciplinary setting. Commitment to personal and professional integration, as well as spiritual, psychological and emotional integration. Ability to engage in spiritual, philosophical and/or theological reflection. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Computer skills - Email, Outlook, Microsoft Office (including Excel and Word). Ability to learn computer software such as Connect Care. Ability to listen and be a grounded and emotionally regulated presence. Ability to be non-judgmental, maintain confidence and affirm individual worth. Ability to cope with a high degree of psychological, emotional and spiritual stress.

Preferred Qualifications:

CASC/ACSS Certification as a Spiritual Care Practitioner. Three years of experience providing spiritual care in a healthcare setting.
