Job summary

Atomic Cartoons’ Vancouver studio is seeking a Junior FX Artist to create Houdini-based effects for a CG production. You will design and animate smoke, fire, water, and other dynamics, collaborating with FX leads to ensure quality and pipeline efficiency.

Remote work within British Columbia is possible, with hybrid or in-studio options for Vancouver and the Lower Mainland. Ideal candidates bring Houdini experience, a good grasp of dynamics, and strong communication.

Qualifications

• Experience using Houdini for FX work including smoke, clouds, fire, lava, water.
• Knowledge of physical dynamics and natural phenomena.
• Experience rendering with Mantra is a plus.
• Prior experience on CG animated production is an asset.
• Basic knowledge of Renderman and/or Katana is an asset.

Are you a Junior CG FX Artist with experience using Houdinilooking for your next opportunity? Our Vancouver studio is looking to fill a Junior FX Artist role on a current CG production.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

• Design and animate effects utilizing Houdini for smoke, clouds, fire, lava, and water that meet the technical and aesthetic standards of the project.
• Take direction from the FX Supervisor, Leads and FX TDs.
• Work with the DFX supervisor, lighting team, and CG Supervisor to determine the best possible technical and creative approaches to ensure smooth workflow within the pipeline.
• Produce look tests based on provided concepts.
• Work within the show structure and production deadlines to complete tasks.
• Meet deadlines as assigned by production management.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

• Knowledge of Houdini Dynamic tools.
• An understanding of physical dynamics and natural phenomena.
• Self-driven, a good communicator, and a great team player.
• Strong technical skills within a show structure.
• Ability to multitask, prioritize, and problem solve.
• Experience rendering with Mantra.
• Prior experience on a CG animated production feature or series is an asset.
• Basic knowledge of Nuke is an asset.
• Basic knowledge of Renderman and/or Katana is an asset.
• Currently legally eligible to work in Canada.
• BC residents are preferred for this role.

START DATE:

October 2026
Applicants must have resided within BC as of December 31, 2025 and be able to provide the appropriate supporting documents. All Atomic employees in this role have the opportunity to work remotely within BC, artists within Vancouver and the Lower Mainland can also choose hybrid and in-studio options.

At Atomic Cartoons and Blue Ant Studios, we take into consideration a wide range of compensation factors including background, skills, location, and experience to determine competitive pay. In addition to competitive pay, this position is eligible for company-sponsored benefits including medical, GRSP, vacation pay, paid holiday break,paid leave,and a variety of other discounts and perks. Please note: This expected pay range is for British Columbia and is not applicable to locations outside of the province of British Columbia.

Wage ranges are based on a weekly rate.

$1,100 - $1,300 CAD
