Preferred certifications include utility operator classifications; strong record-keeping and teamwork are essential for daily tasks and emergency responses.

Qualifications

  • Experience in operation, monitoring, and maintenance of water and wastewater facilities.
  • Ability to complete sampling, testing, monitoring, and reporting per provincial requirements.
  • Valid Class 5 Manitoba Driver’s License; Class 3A or higher is a plus.
  • Strong record keeping and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, monitor, inspect, and maintain water and wastewater facilities.
  • Provide oversight and coordination for water distribution and wastewater collection.
  • Perform sampling, testing, monitoring, reporting, and record keeping.
  • Respond to service calls, alarms, and regulatory compliance.
  • Participate in on-call rotation and emergency response.
  • Assist with preventive maintenance and capital project work.
  • Follow safety procedures and municipal policies.
  • Collaborate with staff, regulators, and the public.

Job description

Position Summary

The Municipality of Souris-Glenwood is seeking a qualified Certified Utility Operator to assist with the operation, maintenance, monitoring, and repair of municipal water and wastewater facilities and related infrastructure.

The successful candidate will work as part of the Public Works / Utilities team and will help ensure the safe, reliable, and compliant delivery of municipal water and wastewater services.

Municipal Utility Classifications
  • Class III Water Treatment Facility
  • Class II Wastewater Treatment Facility
  • Class II Water Distribution System
  • Class II Wastewater Collection System
Key Responsibilities
  • Operate, monitor, inspect, and maintain water treatment and wastewater treatment facilities.
  • Provide certified oversight, inspection, coordination, and technical support for water distribution and
    wastewater collection infrastructure, including maintenance, repairs, service calls, and regulatory
    compliance.
  • Complete sampling, testing, monitoring, reporting, and record keeping in accordance with provincial
    requirements and municipal procedures.
  • Respond to utility service calls, alarms, breaks, backups, and other operational issues.
  • Participate in the municipal on-call rotation and emergency response activities.
  • Assist with preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, equipment checks, and capital project
    work.
  • Follow safe work procedures, workplace health and safety requirements, and applicable municipal
    policies.
  • Work cooperatively with municipal staff, contractors, regulators, and members of the public.
Preferred Required Certifications

Preference will be given to candidates who hold the following Manitoba operator certifications:

  • Class III Water Treatment Operator Certification
  • Class II Wastewater Treatment Operator Certification
  • Class II Water Distribution Operator Certification
  • Class II Wastewater Collection Operator Certification
Additional Qualifications
  • Valid Class 5 Manitoba Driver’s License. A Class 3A or higher license is considered an asset.
  • Experience in municipal utilities, public works, construction, mechanical maintenance, equipment
    operation, or a related field.
  • Ability to work independently, exercise good judgement, and respond appropriately to operational
    issues.
  • Strong record keeping, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks as
    required.
  • SCADA, computerized monitoring, and equipment operation experience are considered assets.
Certification Flexibility

The Municipality may consider candidates who possess a strong combination of relevant certifications and
experience and who are willing to obtain any outstanding certifications within an approved timeframe. For
distribution and collection work, the certified operator may provide oversight and direction for work
performed by municipal staff, contractors, or crews, as required by regulation and municipal procedures.
The successful candidate must be able to meet regulatory requirements for the duties assigned.
