Job summary

Brantford Police Service seeks a CERT Unit Member to patrol the CERT area on bicycle, providing a strong police presence at events and in high crime areas. You will work under the Sgt i/c CERT, performing duties similar to a patrol officer while leveraging bike mobility for access.

Responsibilities include initiating law enforcement actions, investigations, liaising with other units, and enforcing provincial laws at licensed venues. Strong judgment and clear reporting are essential.

Responsibilities

• Patrols using a bicycle to provide visual police presence and primary response within CERT area.
• Serve as a police resource to the downtown neighbourhood and Emerging Entertainment District.
• Participate in committees and liaise with other units to generate intelligence.
• Conduct investigations and prepare/execute warrants targeting illicit activity in the core.
• Enforce provincial laws at licensed establishments and assist CERT Special Constables.
• Provide direction and work with CERT staff to fulfil assignments.

We invite online applications from our sworn members for one Constable position of with our Core Engagement and Response Team (CERT).

PURPOSE OF POSITION

Reporting tothe Sergeant i/c CERT Unit, the CERT officerwillconduct the duties of a patrol officer, while utilizing a bicycle for transportation in patrolling, streets, alleys, parks, and other areas normally inaccessible to vehicular patrol units. This mode of patrol lends itself to providing a positive and effective police presence at special events and functions organized by community groups and to offering a directed patrol to problem and high crime areas within the downtown CERT patrol area.

Shall, in the performance of duties, respect and protect human dignity and maintain and uphold the human rights of all persons.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Initiate law enforcement action as necessary to maintain public order by patrollingand providing visual police presence, primary response to requests for police service within the CERT area, patrols being on foot, bicycle, or automobile
• Provide a police resource to the downtown neighbourhood and the Emerging Entertainment District
• Participate in various committees as required
• Liaise with criminal enforcement units in generating intelligence, identifying problem areas and persons in the core
• Conduct investigations, prepare warrants, execute warrants targeting illicit drug use and criminal activity in the core
• Enforce provincial laws and conduct investigations at licensed establishments
• Provide direction and work in conjunction with CERT Special Constables
• Carry out duties in accordance with the applicable provisions of the Community Safety and Policing Act SO 2019., and other lawful assignments
• Be accountable to supervision
• Perform such other duties as are lawfully assigned

Knowledge

• Thorough understanding and good working knowledge of the organizational structure, Routine Orders, Policy and Procedures, practices within the Service, as it pertains to duties performed
