Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree in Business or 3-year diploma in Business Administration.
  • At least 2 years of payroll processing experience, preferably in law enforcement or government.
  • Strong understanding of payroll principles and compliance.
  • Proficiency with payroll/scheduling software and MS Office.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the Service’s scheduling system (InTime).
  • Process and reconcile payroll transactions accurately and timely.
  • Collaborate with HR and other departments to resolve payroll or scheduling issues.
  • Calculate and process special pay adjustments, overtime, and other payroll elements.
  • Prepare payroll reports for management and conduct regular audits for data accuracy.
  • Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll/scheduling matters professionally.
  • Other duties as required by the position.

The Brantford Police Service is currently accepting applications for a full-time Payroll Technician.

PURPOSE OF POSITION

Under the direction of the Supervisor of Finance and Administration, the Payroll Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring the accurate and timely processing of payroll for our members. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing payroll functions, processing employee time and attendance data, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, policies, and collective agreements.

All members of the Finance team are expected to cross train in order to provide support in other areas of the Finance section in the event of absences.

Shall, in the performance of duties, respect and protect human dignity and maintain and uphold the human rights of all persons.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Management of the Service’s scheduling system (InTime)
  • Process and reconcile payroll transactions accurately and in a timely manner

KNOWLEDGE
  • Post-secondary degree in Business or 3-year diploma in Business Administration
  • At least 2 years of relevant work experience in payroll processing, preferably in a law enforcement or government setting
  • Strong understanding of payroll principles
  • Proficient in the use of payroll/scheduling software and MS Office applications
