Job summary

Riverside Cemetery is seeking a dependable Cemetery Lead Hand to support daily grounds maintenance, burials, and crematorium operations on a full-time basis. The role upholds a respectful, well-kept environment and offers professional service to families and funeral professionals.

The successful candidate will operate and maintain cemetery equipment, perform landscaping tasks, and assist with setting monuments while ensuring safety and compliance with policies.

Qualifications

• Experience in cemetery/crematorium operations or grounds maintenance is preferred.
• Ability to operate tractors, loaders, excavators and similar equipment.
• Valid driver’s license is required.
• Physically able to perform duties including lifting, bending, standing, and operating equipment.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Cemetery Superintendent with day-to-day operation of the cemetery & crematorium.
• Assist with burials, interments, cremation interments, disinterments as required.
• Operate and maintain cemetery equipment (tractors, loaders, excavators, etc.).
• Perform grass cutting, trimming, landscaping, snow removal, tree and shrub maintenance, and general grounds upkeep.
• Prepare graves and ensure burial areas are properly maintained and restored.
• Assist with setting and maintaining monuments, markers, foundations, and other cemetery structures.
• Maintain accurate burial records and assist with locating grave plots.
• Ensure grounds and equipment are maintained in a safe and orderly condition.
• Follow cemetery policies, health and safety requirements, and municipal regulations.
• Assist with scheduling and coordinating cemetery services and contractors.
• Communicate respectfully with families and the public during times of grief.
• Provide assistance to cemetery staff and contractors as required.
• Perform other duties related to cemetery operations as assigned.
