As the Finance Manager, you’ll use your skills in financial and contract management and investment support to help grow the impact of Carolinian Canada to accelerate healthy landscapes together with diverse partners.

$70,000 to $80,000 per year full time.

Duties and Responsibilities

You will work with the Executive Director and Management Team to lead and grow the organization through strong financial management with a focus on:

  • Manage financial and compliance needs for the charity and multiple programs (~40% of time) such as:
  • Support the financial operations through budget management, project accounting, annual and project audits and expense tracking
  • Manage the bookkeeping through monthly invoicing payments (A/R, A/P), payroll, etc.
  • Report on quarterly financial results for management and board review
  • Investment accounting and debt registry management for innovative Conservation Impact Bond (CIB)
  • Project accounting with reports on funding initiatives and project activities
  • Advise and report on cash flow projections to management and board of directors
  • Manage contracts for foundation grants, Conservation Impact Bond, and other agreements (~30%) such as:
  • Liaise and coordinate with external partnerships
  • Assist board, staff and committees with project budgeting and tracking and reporting.
  • Contribute to effective fundraising in collaboration with the team as needed through membership, earned revenue and grants as needed (15%)such as:
  • Administrative and budget support for fundraising and compliance activities as required
  • Strong teamwork for the smooth operations, representation and growth of the organization (15%) such as:
    • Support the creation of ethical and brave spaces
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, report writing skills
    • Positive relationship-building with a diverse network, board and partners
    • Participate in communications, research, reporting, events, web updates, data input, team meetings, tracking deadlines
    • Manage your workplan in collaboration with the team, in a highly organized and efficient manner to manage multiple deadlines
    • Handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality at all times.
    • All other duties as assigned
Education, Skills, and Experience
  • Minimum completion of college diploma in accounting, business administration or a comparable program
  • Previous work experience as a finance assistant, financial officer, or relatable experience
  • Good knowledge of accounting and bookkeeping procedures
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation and compliance
  • Experience developing, refining or assessing finance, compliance and/or operational procedures and processes
  • Experience working with a board of directors and an understanding of board governance is an asset
  • Knowledge of social enterprise, business planning, or impact investment models an asset
  • Exposure to the Canadian Accounting Standards for Not-for-Profit Organizations is an asset
  • Flexibility to deal with multiple needs in an ever-changing environment
  • Excellent attention to detail, particularly with quantitative information
  • Strong computer skills and the ability to learn new systems efficiently
  • Knowledge of Simply Accounting is an asset
  • Experience using Deluxe payroll system is an asset.
