Job summary

Job Summary

If you come on board as a Category Development Manager, Supplies and Equipment, your responsibilities will include:

  • Participating in the overall purchasing business plan and owning the strategic development of category plans within your area, ensuring efficient management of other functions to deliver business objectives and improve performance.
  • Remaining current on industry trends to develop new strategic initiatives for sustainable growth, sales, and profitability.
  • Participating in strategic sourcing efforts, supporting the 7-Step Process, suggesting continuous improvements, fostering collaboration, and encouraging cross-functional synergies to maximize value.
  • Managing day-to-day and long-term projects for category activities and initiatives.
  • Identifying growth opportunities and creating plans to support strategic and major category initiatives.
  • Communicating with procurement and distribution to understand market issues and opportunities, enabling continuous client updates.
  • Implementing supplier and product rationalization programs.
  • Using analysis tools such as cost models and portfolio analysis to manage categories and suppliers.
  • Leading quarterly business performance reviews with stakeholders and suppliers.
  • Conducting tactical negotiations with suppliers.
  • Leading project management and implementation of new supplier programs.
  • Performing special projects or other duties as assigned.

To succeed as a Category Development Manager, Supplies and Equipment, candidates should have:

  • At least 5 years of experience in purchasing and supply chain management in a fast-paced environment.
  • Post-secondary education in purchasing or related fields.
  • Strong strategic planning and analytical skills.
  • Proven negotiation and interpersonal skills, with excellent communication abilities.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and database management.
  • Aptitude for supporting supplies, equipment, and services areas.
