NSCC's Institute of Skilled Trades in Dartmouth, NS seeks a casual Program Assistant 2 (TS10) to provide essential laboratory, program and administrative support. The role operates at Ivany Campus with a 35-hour work week and invites candidates to contribute to a hands-on learning environment.

Applicants should have a Red Seal Trade credential, WHMIS/OH&S training or willingness to obtain, and at least five years of related experience.

Qualifications

  • Minimum educational qualification: relevant post-secondary diploma or certification in a Red Seal Trade.
  • Training in WHMIS and OH&S regulations plus Standard First Aid, CPR or willingness to obtain.
  • Minimum five years full-time equivalent experience in the trades.
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office Suite; LMS experience an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Provide laboratory/shop, program and administrative support to Academic Chair and Carpentry/Electrical Faculty.
  • Maintain lab/shop environment, inventory, and assist with demonstrations and technology needs.
  • Prepare projects and mock-ups in advance; support students and staff in a lab/shop setting.
  • Assist Faculty with safe operation of tools and equipment and safe work practices.

Hourly Rate: $28.16 - $33.07

Qualifications
Qualifications and Occupational Experience:
  • The minimum educational qualification for this position is a relevant post-secondary diploma or certification in a Red Seal Trade.
  • In addition, you possess training in WHMIS and Occupational Health and Safety regulations as well as Standard First Aid, CPR and discipline relevant safety training or you have a willingness to obtain.
  • You have a minimum of five years (full-time equivalent) of recent and related occupational experience in the trades.
  • You are familiar with and comfortable using computer applications such as the Microsoft Office Suite. Experience with Brightspace or other Learning Management Systems would be considered an asset.
  • You are comfortable working in a digital environment; you take responsibility for acquiring knowledge about advancing technology; and you are committed to using technology in advancing your work
  • Experience in training/facilitation preparation, delivery and evaluation would be considered an asset.
  • Experience supporting/providing service to students and prospective students would be considered an asset.

Responsibilities
  • Reporting to the Academic Chair, Institute of Skilled Trades, and under the direct supervision of the Carpentry and Electrical program Faculty, you will provide laboratory/shop, program and administrative support.
  • You will maintain the laboratory/shop by managing the lab/shop environment, media and/or equipment preparation, and maintenance of the inventory system for lab/shop supplies. Additionally, you will assist with lab/shop demonstrations; provide administrative preparation for the lab/shop, assist with technology needs, including computers; and work with students, Faculty and staff in a laboratory/shop setting.
  • You will also assist in classroom and lab/shop demonstrations and prepare projects and mock-ups in advance of the need.
  • You will assist Faculty with the safe operation of tools and equipment and safe work practices.
