Job summary

Rundle College Society is seeking Building Attendants to join our team as casual, on-call staff at our Rundle Schools. You will be added to a roster to work as needed, including evenings and events.

The role requires independent work, familiarity with building systems, and a focus on safety, cleaning, and basic maintenance. Police checks, first aid, and OH&S training are required; a valid Class 5 licence is an asset.

Qualifications

  • Police information check and vulnerable sector check required.
  • First Aid certification required.
  • Occupational Health and Safety training (WHMIS, fire safety, fall protection).
  • Class 5 Driver’s licence considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Open and/or close the school, operate alarm systems, and perform security rounds.
  • Be onsite contact for evening visitors and user groups and assist as needed.
  • Perform pre/post checks, monitoring rounds, and after hours reports for rentals.
  • Prepare and set up rooms for meetings/events and clean up afterward.
  • Carry out daily and seasonal cleaning tasks and respond to emergencies.
  • Complete minor maintenance and address staff requests for assistance.
  • Identify safety risks and take immediate action.
  • Snow removal and ice melt application in winter.
  • Occasional coverage of other shifts/locations.

Position

Rundle is seeking Building Attendants to join our team. These hourly, on-call employees will be added to our roster to work as required.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Open and/or close the school, operate alarm systems, and perform regular security rounds of school grounds;
  • Act as onsite contact for evening visitors and user groups, and assist as needed;
  • Perform pre/post checks,regular monitoring rounds, and after hours reports of evening rental spaces and users at the Academy Campus
  • Prepare and set up rooms for meetings, events, or various other activities and clean up after the event;
  • Perform daily cleaning routines and seasonal cleaning tasks;
  • Respond to any emergency cleanup and facility demands during shift
  • Complete minor maintenance duties and respond to staff requests for assistance;
  • Identify safety risks in the school and take immediate action as required;
  • Snow removal and application of ice melt in the winter;
  • Coverage of other shift times and locations may be requested on occasion;
  • Other duties as assigned by the Principal and the Manager of Facilities

Qualifications

Knowledge and Skills

  • Highly motivated and able to work independently.
  • Comfortable working with various technologies, inclusive of smartphones and tablets.
  • Work with tools and have basic knowledge in building repair, chemical cleaners, and electrical and plumbing operations.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to comprehend and communicate detailed instructions orally and in writing.
  • Ability to multi-task and establish priorities.
  • Ability to perform small repairs and equipment maintenance.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft computer software (e.g. Excel, Word, etc.) and email.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Experience

  • One (1) year of previous custodial/janitorial experience.
  • Minimum two (2) years' experience in the operation and maintenance of buildings.

Education

  • Submission of police information check and vulnerable sector check.
  • First Aid certification.
  • Occupational Health and Safety training (e.g., WHMIS, fire safety, fall protection).
  • Class 5 Driver’s licence considered an asset.
