Job summary

City of Chilliwack is seeking two casual Bylaw Enforcement Officers to support the Development and Regulatory Enforcement Services. You will assist management to maintain efficient operations by inspecting for bylaw compliance, processing complaints, and communicating regulations to the public.

The role requires completing required training, a valid BC Driver's License, and flexibility to work shifts including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

• Minimum of Grade 12 education supplemented with criminology and administration courses; valid BC Driver's License.
• Assist in administration of inspectional/enforcement programs; process complaints; prepare information for prosecution and testify in court.
• Must be able to conduct field inspections for bylaw infractions and ensure businesses are properly licensed.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, with motivation, goal orientation and problem-solving ability.
• Ability to interact with all community members, including those experiencing homelessness or health concerns.
• Ability to conduct patrols on foot and bicycle in all weather and terrain.
• Able to work evenings, weekends and stat holidays.

Responsibilities

• Receive and process complaints and investigate bylaw violations.
• Perform field inspections to ensure compliance and proper licensing.
• Interpret regulations and bylaws to the public and provide information for prosecutions.
• Maintain records, prepare correspondence, and handle simple accounts.
