Job summary

WNHAC is seeking a Casual Client Support Worker for the HART Hub in Norwood, Kenora. The role supports clients through journey planning, resource navigation, and connections to addiction and mental health services.

It requires cultural awareness and willingness to travel within the region. Responsibilities include intake, program materials, and assisting with group sessions, often involving outdoor activities.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated wholistic health understanding and well-being.
• Personal experience or strong knowledge of the healing journey and abstinence from mind altering chemicals.
• Excellent oral and written communication, including computer literacy.
• Deep understanding of Indigenous culture and perspectives; willingness to learn Indigenous practices.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel.
• Criminal records check and current driver’s abstract required.

Responsibilities

• Support clients to participate in Journey Planning; identify goals and resources.
• Coordinate case management needs; educate clients to seek resources and navigate health care.
• Assist clients in accessing addiction services and mental health resources.
• Complete client intake and help access services including health care, cultural supports, meals, and transportation.
• Model positive daily living skills and support with teachings and demonstrations.
• Maintain safe, clean facilities and manage supplies.
• Prepare documentation and reports for accountability and communication.
• Other duties as required and possible redeployment in emergencies.

Casual Client Support Worker (HART Hub - Norwood)

Multiple Casual (Existing) Positions

Waasegiizhig Nanaandawe'iyewigamig provides wholistic, primary health care to Indigenous people in Kenora and surrounding First Nation communities through a range of options including prevention, assessment, diagnosis and treatment. Our client-centered, interprofessional teams include health professionals, educators and support workers representing both traditional Indigenous, and contemporary models of care and use medical and community development concepts.

The Homelessness Addiction and Recovery Treatment (HART) Hub will offer a seamless continuum of care that integrates a culturally responsive care model and healing methods. This model is tailored to the needs of individuals who are experiencing homelessness, addiction and mental health designed to address the multifaceted needs of our communities, this approach ensures coordinated, compassionate, and evidence-based care as a way to support stability and long-term recovery.

The position will operate in a 24/7 format with shift work and weekends included. Responsibilities include monitoring and supporting clients, preparing program materials, and assisting with group sessions which will often include outdoor and hands-on activities. The program will also provide referrals to partner organizations.

NOTE: Traditional practices involve cultural ceremonies and burning sacred medicines including tobacco, sweetgrass, sage and cedar within the work setting.

Primary Duties / Responsibilities:

• Support clients to participate in Journey Planning; identifying goals and exploring resources needed to reach their goals and outcomes.
• Coordination of case management needs; working closely with clients to educate and build independence to seek out resources and services and how to navigate the health care system to build capacity.
• Supporting clients with seeking out addiction services and mental health resources they may be interested in.
• Complete client intake and assist with accessing needed services, including health care, cultural supports, meals, and transportation.
• Support clients in a variety of ways such as role modeling, teachings, demonstrations and working alongside towards developing clients daily living skills.
• Work together as a team to maintain a safe, comfortable and clean facilities, and an adequate inventory of Supplies.
• Prepare and complete documentation, including statistics and reports, to ensure appropriate accountability and effective communication.
• Other duties as required. In extenuating situations or in the event of an emergency, may be redeployed toensure provision of essential services.

Qualifications:

• minimum OSSD or equivalent; some experience working in the health care field an asset;
• demonstrated understanding of wholistic health and well-being; personal experience or strong knowledge of the healing journey and abstinence from mind altering chemicals;
• demonstrated oral and written communication skills (including computer skills); excellent interpersonal skills to deal effectively with a wide variety of people;
• deep understanding and experience of Indigenous culture, values, and perspectives as well as traditional and contemporary health care practices, and wholistic health and wellbeing; ability to speak and understand Anishinaabemowin a definite asset;
• experience working in an Indigenous organization; understanding and/or willingness to learn of Indigenous culture and values;
• proof of immunization in compliance with policy requirements is mandatory;
• valid drivers' license, own vehicle and willingness and ability to travel required;
• criminal records check and current drivers' abstract required;
• commitment to ongoing training and professional development relevant to job requirements; and positive attitude and capacity to act as a healthy lifestyle role model

Salary: $28.98 per hour
