Job summary

College of New Caledonia in Prince George, BC is seeking a Casual Accessibility Assistant to support students with disabilities in classrooms and campus settings. The role may involve clerical tasks related to accommodations and implementing student plans.

Reporting to the Director of Learning Commons & Academic Success Centre, you will work with the Accessibility Advisor to ensure accessible learning environments, assist with adaptive equipment, and help connect students with College resources.

Qualifications

• High school completion with relevant certificate preferred.
• 6 months+ experience with individuals with disabilities or equivalent training.
• Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills with students, staff and public.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate tact in sensitive situations.
• Strong written and oral communication; notes and accessibility support.
• Familiarity with adaptive technologies and safe, inclusive practices.

Responsibilities

• Take concise lecture notes and facilitate student participation.
• Act as a reader and/or scribe for students as needed.
• Invigilate exams when required.
• Ensure classroom accessibility for students with disabilities.
• Assist with accommodation plans and troubleshooting adaptive equipment.
• Create accessible documents and perform clerical tasks.
• Schedule appointments related to student accommodation planning.
• Connect students with appropriate College support resources.
• Collaborate with the team to support College goals and learner needs.
• Maintain professionalism and mutual respect in interactions.
