Job summary

Italian Centre Shop South Ltd. is currently recruiting a Full-Time Seasonal Cashier /Gift Basket Clerk at our South Side location in Edmonton, AB. The role is a seasonal position starting soon and ending January 3, 2027.

Reporting to the Grocery Supervisor, you will deliver exceptional customer service, handle payments, and support gift basket production. The job includes early mornings, late shifts, weekends, and holiday coverage.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• At least 1 year of experience in fast food or catering; training possible.
• Ability to handle cash, balance drawers, and provide friendly service.
• Experience making gift baskets is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Provide exceptional customer service and foster customer loyalty.
• Balance cash register and generate sales reports.
• Process transactions and issue receipts accurately.
• Prepare and package gift baskets according to guidelines.
• Manage basket inventory and scheduling for production and delivery.
• Maintain a clean, sanitary, and organized work area.
• Represent ICS in-store and uphold food safety protocols.

SUMMARY

Reporting directly to the Grocery Supervisor, the Cashier /Gift Basket Clerk position ensures that the gift basket area and grocery department is always performing in an effective and efficient manner, minding ICS’s policies and procedures for all actions and decisions. This position will support and follow ICS’s mission and values.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Prioritize providing exceptional customer service to deliver a positive customer experience thereby cultivating a positive reputation for the company and fostering customer loyalty.
• Communicating customer requests and concerns to their cashier supervisor and/or department manager.
• Counting money in cash drawers at the start and end of shifts to ensure correct amounts.
• Balancing the cash register and generating reports for credit and debit sales.
• Accepting payments, ensuring all prices and quantities are accurate, and providing a receipt to every customer.
• Operating scanners, scales, cash registers, and other electronics.
• Processing transactions, refunds, and exchanges; and resolving complaints with accuracy and efficiency.
• Taking basket orders and scheduling production, delivery, and shipping deliveries.
• Managing the supply inventory for baskets.
• Making gift basket orders according to company guidelines and standards.
• Packaging orders according to transportation needs.
• Before using products, checking ingredient quality and expiration dates.
• Keeping a clean, sanitized, and orderly work environment at all times.
• Representing ICS both in and out of the store.
• Adhering to all food safety protocols, standard operating procedures, health and safety policies, and other programs and initiatives.
• Other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

• High school diploma or GED from an accredited school system or program is preferred.

Experience

• A minimum of one year of experience in a fast food or catering environment; however, we are willing to train the right candidate.

Skills and Abilities

• Semi-skilled: artistic/creative abilities with basket making.
• Ability to work under pressure while always maintaining a professional image.
• Basic mathematics skills.
• Excellent listening and communication skills.
• Experience in high-volume basket production is an asset.
• Excellent listening skills and communication skills, both verbally and written.
• Working independently with little direct supervision.

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Required to work a variety of shifts, including early mornings, days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Required at times to work with challenging customers and/or situations.
• Exposed to hot and cold environments.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Long periods of standing, walking, and sitting.
• Frequent motions include bending, twisting, squatting, pushing, pulling, and reaching.
• Includes manual and repetitive tasks.
• On occasion, you may be required to lift up to 22.5 kg (50 lbs).
