Job summary

The Government of Nova Scotia is hiring a Carpenter Foreperson to lead the architectural trades team, coordinating and inspecting work by staff and contractors. You will supervise projects from repairs to new installations, ensuring compliance with the National Building Code of Canada and safety regulations.

We seek a candidate with a valid Nova Scotia Carpentry certificate or Red Seal, plus 5 years’ experience and proven leadership. Competitive compensation and benefits are provided.

Qualifications

• Nova Scotia Certificate of Qualification (Carpentry) or a Journeyman Red Seal (carpentry) with 5 years of experience.
• Foreperson or supervisory experience is required.
• Experience with installation, troubleshooting and maintenance of architectural systems.
• Knowledge of National Building Code of Canada and National Fire Code of Canada.
• Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations.
• Ability to read and interpret specifications and drawings; problem-solving and planning skills.
• Strong public relations/customer service skills; good verbal and written communication.
• Computer proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook; MS Office suite; experience with power tools and machinery.
• Knowledge of government procurement policy and tendering procedures.
