Job summary

Houston Landscapes Ltd. is seeking a Carpenter for its location in North Vancouver, BC. This is a full-time, permanent role at 40 hours per week, paying CAD 35.00–37.00 per hour, with bi-weekly pay.

Overtime follows BC Employment Standards Act (1.5x when over 8 hours/day or 40 hours/week). We currently have two positions available and require driving, safety, and leadership capabilities to manage hardscape and softscape projects.

Qualifications

• Must have completed high school.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and clean driving history.
• Must have at least two years of work experience as a Carpenter or a combination of experience and education/training.
• Manual dexterity is a must.
• The position is physically demanding.
• Must be able to work under minimum supervision.
• Must have an attention to details.
• Must be able to work under pressure of tight deadlines; at heights, in confined, noisy, and/or dusty spaces.
• Must be able to handle heavy loads.
• Must have excellent problem solving, decision making, job task planning and organizing skills.
• Must be willing to work in all weather conditions.
• Must be able to speak, read and write in English.

Responsibilities

• Study specifications in blueprints to prepare layout and determine materials.
• Construct decks, walls, walkways, stairs, fountains and waterfalls, walls and BBQ stations.
• Inspect and replace damaged framework or structures and fixtures.
• Assemble and fasten material using hand tools and wood screws/nails/dowels.
• Assemble and join materials made of wood and substitutes.
• Measure, cut, or shape wood and other materials.
• Measure and mark cutting lines on materials.
• Install, repair, and renovate structures using carpenter’s tools.
• Follow safety rules and maintain a safe environment.
• Instruct and direct labourers and construction helpers.
• Complete daily paperwork tracking job time and material costs.
• Responsible for hardscape and softscape landscape construction.

Job description

Houston Landscapes Ltd. is seeking Carpenter for its location in North Vancouver, BC. It’s a full-time (40 hours per week), permanent position$35.00-$37/hour (depending on experience) paid on a bi-weekly basis. Overtime compensation is based on the current BC Employment Standards Act (1.5 times the regular wage paid if the daily hours exceed 8 hours or the weekly hours exceed 40 hours).

We currently have two positions available.

Location of employment: Vancouver Mainland

Job duties:

• Study specifications in blueprints, sketches, or building plan to prepare landscape project layout and determine dimensions and materials required;
• Construct decks, garden walls, walkways, stairs, fountains and waterfalls, retaining walls and BBQ stations;
• Inspect and replace damaged framework or other structures and fixtures;
• Assemble and fasten material using hand tools and wood screws, nails, dowel pins, or glue;
• Assemble and join materials made of wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel and other materials;
• Measure, cut, or shape wood and other materials;
• Measure and mark cutting lines on materials using ruler, pencil, chalk, and marking gauge;
• Install, repair, and/or renovate structures and fixtures using carpenter's hand and power tools;
• Follow established safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe and clean environment;
• Instruct and direct labourers and any construction helpers;
• Complete daily paperwork tracking job time and material costs;
• Responsible for hardscape and softscape landscape construction.
