Job summary

Gavan Construction Company is seeking an experienced carpenter for a fast-paced, custom residential environment. The successful candidate will design, build, install and repair structures, read drawings, and coordinate with project managers.

This full-time onsite role emphasizes craftsmanship and collaboration in Sea to Sky corridor projects. Applicants should have a recognized apprenticeship and strong BC code understanding; red seal is preferred but not mandatory.

Qualifications

• Red seal in carpentry is preferred, but not essential.
• Completion of a recognized apprenticeship is required.
• Strong understanding of BC building code standards.
• A valid driver’s license is needed.
• Problem solving abilities are essential.
• Physically fit and able to work outdoors in all weather.
• Level 1 first aid is an asset.
• Strong reading and math skills are needed.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, install and repair structures from various materials.
• Perform layout, measuring and arrange materials for projects.
• Cut and shape wood and other materials with hand/power tools.
• Join materials with nails, screws, staples or adhesives.
• Check accuracy and adjust as required; coordinate with team.
• Work with prefabricated products as needed.
• Read and use drawings provided by the Project Manager.
• Follow directions from site foreman and Project Manager.
• Maintain tools in good working order.
• Mentor apprentices and complete their training as required.
• Follow all safety procedures.

About the Role, Benefits & Perks:

• Full-time, year round.
• Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 4:00pm.

The Perfect Candidate:

• Red seal in carpentry preferred, but not essential.

• Work with prefabricated products as necessary.
• Read, use and work with drawings as provided by the Project Manager.
• Follow direction as provided by the site foreman and Project Manager.
• Maintain your own tools in good working order.
• Take on an apprentice when required, and complete his/her training as required by their schooling standards.
• Follow all safety procedures.
