Job summary

Hyland Landscapes, a fast-growing high-end landscaping company, is seeking 3 full-time, permanent carpenters to operate on-site across the Lower Mainland, including Whistler, Sunshine Coast and Gulf Islands.

You will build foundations and formwork, decks, railings, fences and various structures, read blueprints, prepare layouts, and supervise apprentices. Some travel to multiple sites is required and weekend work is possible. English is required and a secondary school diploma is expected.

Qualifications

• 3–4 years of landscaping carpentry experience.
• Completion of secondary school.
• English language is required.

Responsibilities

• Build foundations and concrete formwork; install decks and pergola frames; build railings, stairs and retaining walls; and conduct wood finishing.
• Build various landscaping structures including decorative fences, fireplaces, arbors, gazebos, pavilions, sheds and decks.
• Build and install enclosures and boundaries, such as fencing, gates and archways.
• Read and interpret blueprints, drawings and sketches to determine specifications and calculate requirements.
• Prepare layouts in conformance to building codes, using measuring tools.
• Measure, cut, shape, assemble and join materials (wood, wood substitutes, steel, etc.).
• Maintain, repair and renovate residential landscaping structures.
• Supervise apprentices and other construction workers.
• Prepare cost estimates for clients.

Hyland Landscapes – Carpenters

3 full-time, permanent carpenters are required by Hyland Landscapes, a fast-growing high-end landscaping business operating on site across the Lower Mainland including Whistler, Sunshine Coast and Gulf Islands with head office at #112 618 East Kent Ave S Vancouver, BC V5X 0B1.

The salary range is $31.50 – $33.00 per hour.

The main duties will be to:

• Build foundations and concrete formwork; install decks and pergolaframes; build railings, stairs and retaining walls; and conduct wood finishing;
• Build various landscaping structures including decorative fences, fireplaces, and Arbors, Gazebos and Pavilions, Cabanas and Pool Houses, Sheds and Garden Studios, Raised and Ground-Level Decks and Multi-Tier Decks;
• Build and install and erect enclosures and boundaries, such as custom fencing, gates and archways, screens and trellises;
• Read and interpret blueprints, drawings and sketches to determine specifications and calculate requirements;
• Prepare layouts in conformance to building codes, using measuring tools;
• Measure, cut, shape, assemble and join materials made of wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel and other materials;
• Maintain, repair and renovate residential landscaping structures;
• Supervise apprentices and other construction workers;
• Prepare cost estimates for clients.

As we operate across the Lower Mainland, Whistler, Sunshine coast and Gulf Islands, travel to our various construction sites is required. Ideal candidate will have transport to and from construction sites.

As we operate on weekends, successful candidates must be prepared to work on weekends.

Ideal Candidate will have the following:

• 3 – 4 years of experience in landscaping carpentry.
