Job summary

The John Howard Society of Durham is seeking an Employment/Employer Advisor to deliver client-centered employment services across in-person and community-based settings. The role involves intake assessments, goal setting, job development, and case management to support clients in entering or re-entering the labour market.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary education in Social Services, Career Development, Human Resources or related field.
• Experience in employment counselling with knowledge of pre-employment support strategies and labour market resources.
• Proficient in case management, goal setting, and motivational interviewing.

Responsibilities

• Conduct intake interviews and assessments to identify clients' goals and needs.
• Provide case management, referrals, and life stabilization supports.
• Deliver career development services and guidance with education and training referrals.
• Facilitate job search strategies and employment readiness activities.
• Implement job retention strategies and coaching to support long-term employment.
• Plan and deliver employment-related workshops and trainings (e.g., Smart Serve, Basic Food Safety).
• Travel to community locations and itinerant sites to ensure accessibility of services.
