Job summary

Shannex Incorporated in Brookfield, Nova Scotia, is seeking a dedicated Continuing Care Assistant to join the Elk Court team. You will support residents with daily living activities, assist with specialty needs, and contribute to care plans in a collaborative environment.

The role requires CCA program completion, Nova Scotia CCA registration, CPR/First Aid, and flexibility across shifts. Training opportunities and a supportive team culture are provided.

Qualifications

  • Completion of Continuing Care Assistant program or equivalency according to the CCA Entry to Practice Policy
  • You are registered in Nova Scotia’s CCA registry as per the Continuing Care Assistants Registry Act
  • CPR/First Aid certification is required
  • Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check may be required before appointment
  • Flexibility to work days, nights, weekends and holidays
  • Knowledge of infection prevention and control practices
  • Ability to use Electronic Health Care Records (EHR)
  • Back in Form Lift & Transfer training is an asset
  • Bilingualism in French/English is an asset
  • Experience with elderly in long-term care or senior living is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Assists residents with hygiene and daily living activities (bathing, dressing, oral care, meals) as assigned
  • Assists with residents' special needs (eye care, colostomy, catheter)
  • Aids in restorative care (walking, range of motion)
  • Provides mealtime assistance and snacks; monitors intake
  • Documents care in Daily Resident Care Records and progress notes
  • Communicates observations to the Supervisor
  • Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to develop Resident Care Plans
  • Supports resident leisure activities and light housekeeping duties
  • Performs delegated nursing acts per company policy and scope of practice
  • Reports safety concerns to Supervisor and participates in quality initiatives
  • Performs additional duties as required

About The Opportunity
  • Assists residents with hygiene and daily living activities, such as bathing, dressing, oral care, skin care, meals, and mobilizing according to the work assignment
  • Assists with resident’s special needs, e.g. eye care, colostomy, and catheter
  • Assists in restorative care e.g. walking, range of motion
  • Provides mealtime assistance when required
  • Provides snacks, morning and afternoon fluid passes and night lunches, while monitoring intake
  • Documents according to facility policy e.g. Daily Resident Care Record, resident progress notes, initiating medication incident reports, servery documentation and audits, incident reports etc.
  • Communicates and reports pertinent and relevant information and/or observations to the Supervisor
  • Collaborates with the resident and other members of the interdisciplinary team in the development of individualized Resident Care Plan
  • Assists in the planning and implementation of resident leisure activities daily
  • Assists with light housekeeping duties
  • Performs delegated nursing acts according to company policy and scope of practice
  • Communicates and reports relevant information regarding resident care or safety to Supervisor.

About You

In addition to placing high value on continuous improvement, collaboration and accountability, you bring:

  • Completion of Continuing Care Assistant program or equivalency according to the CCA Entry to Practice Policy
  • You are registered in Nova Scotia’s CCA registry as per the Continuing Care Assistants Registry Act

  • You hold a valid CPR/First Aid certification. (required)
  • Successful candidates will be required to obtain a clear Criminal Record Check, and where applicable, a Vulnerable Sector Check, prior to appointment.
  • You can work a schedule of flexible hours and shifts inclusive of days, nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Completed Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care course considered an asset
  • Knowledge of infection prevention and control practices
  • Knowledge of principles of personal care including bathing, oral hygiene
  • Ability to utilize technology (i.e. Electronic Health Care Records)
  • A completed Back in Form Lift & Transfer Program is considered an asset
  • Bilingualism in French/English is considered an asset
  • Previous working experience with elderly in long-term care or a senior living environment an asset
  • A passion for the healthcare sector and/or ensuring seniors have access to quality accommodations, services and care
