Job summary

The University of Saskatchewan is seeking a Capital Project Planner in Capital & Business Planning to lead planning and development for capital projects, from concept through planning completion. The role translates stakeholder needs into concrete requirements and planning recommendations, coordinating with stakeholders, consultants and technical experts.

You will prepare planning documentation, business cases and governance submissions, supporting informed decisions and successful project

Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree in planning, architecture, architectural technology, interior design, engineering, construction management, facilities management, or a related field.
• Professional registration in a relevant discipline is an asset.
• Minimum of three years of related experience supporting capital planning activities, renovations, capital improvements, or facility projects.
• Ability to interpret architectural drawings and technical documentation.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to maintain multiple competing priorities.
• Sound judgment to determine when to resolve issues independently and when to resolve.
• Knowledge of university policies, planning processes, and sustainability principles is an asset.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with AutoCAD, SketchUp, Bluebeam, and document management software is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Leads the planning and development of assigned capital projects, from conception through planning completion.
• Identifies operational needs, defines project requirements, and develops recommendations.
• Develops planning recommendations balancing stakeholder needs with objectives.
• Prepares planning documents, business cases, and governance submissions.
• Coordinates input from stakeholders, consultants, and technical specialists.
• Reviews studies and designs for alignment with requirements and standards.
• Works with Project Managers to maintain alignment as projects progress.
• Facilitates meetings and documents outcomes and decisions.
• Prepares reports and recommendations for governance and leadership audiences.
• Assists with consultant scopes of work and evaluation processes.
• Supports planning activities through research, analysis, and coordination.
• Contributes to improving capital planning processes and tools.
