Reporting to the Assistant General Counsel, this role offers an exciting opportunity to serve as a strategic partner across various commercial and regulatory matters. The ideal candidate will have 7-10 years of corporate or commercial legal experience, either in-house or at a law firm. This position is suited for someone curious, adaptable, and confident, eager to advise on diverse issues and lead complex transactions.

What You'll Do

• Support growth initiatives across multiple business units, including financial services, ecommerce, transportation, technology, and marketing.
• Lead negotiations for strategic commercial transactions.
• Advise on complex regulatory issues such as financial services, consumer protection, and privacy.
• Identify and manage legal and regulatory risks, collaborating with relevant business units to develop solutions.
• Educate and train staff on legal requirements in partnership with stakeholders.
• Manage external counsel across Canada effectively.
• Implement efficient working practices within and outside the legal department.

Qualifications

• 7-10 years of corporate/regulatory experience in an in-house legal team or law firm.
• LLB or JD degree.
• Strong drafting, negotiation, and transactional leadership skills, with the ability to communicate legal advice effectively at all organizational levels.
• Experience with financial services, consumer protection, or privacy/data governance is an asset.
• Good business acumen, sound judgment, and interpersonal skills for extensive cross-functional interactions.
