We are looking for a Legal Counsel, Insurance and Distribution

Reporting to the Assistant Vice President & Senior Counsel, Insurance Solutions, you will be a key member of the legal team providing support to our Canadian business by offering practical and timely legal advice on tactical and strategic issues, focusing on individual insurance products and insurance distribution. Your work will include providing advice on product development, contracts, policy governance, and regulatory matters. This role offers the opportunity to develop expertise in dynamic legal areas and work closely with business partners in our insurance sector.

Accountabilities:
  1. Collaborate with business and functional teams to deliver practical, risk-based legal advice across various matters.
  2. Support existing and new insurance products, including drafting and interpreting contracts, managing policy administration, and providing internal legal support for different insurance types.
  3. Advise on distribution operations, including contracts.
  4. Stay informed on regulatory requirements related to insurance products and distribution, and advise accordingly.
Qualifications and Competencies:
  • Law Degree, Member in good standing of a provincial Bar.
  • 3+ years of relevant legal experience (law firm or in-house).
  • Experience with life and health insurance products and distribution is a strong asset.
  • Knowledge of participating policy governance is advantageous.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and in teams.
  • Strong communication skills and a practical, solution-oriented approach.
  • Excellent legal drafting skills, including contracts and agreements.
  • Proactive in project completion.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to simplify complex issues.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt in a dynamic environment.

This position can be located in Toronto, Winnipeg, or London, depending on organizational needs.
