Job summary

Northern Lights College seeks a Campus Security/Maintenance staff member to ensure controlled access to College facilities and keep College property secure. The role involves patrolling campus, assisting the public, and performing light maintenance tasks during shifts.

The position requires a valid BC security licence, First Aid Level 1, and a Class 5 driver’s licence. A flexible, team-oriented approach and the ability to work with minimal supervision are essential.

Job description

Term of Appointment

Monday - Friday, 7 hrs/day (shift is 7:00am - 3:00pm)

Start date: Immediately

Reporting to: Manager of Facilities

Classification & Salary

Classification 9, $49,769.95 - $51,309.23 annually in accordance with the BCGEU Support Collective Agreement.

Vacation (119 hours annually) is pro‑rated and front loaded. We offer competitive extended health and dental benefits, and time off for family illness, personal illness, and other special leaves. Closure during the Christmas Break (December 25 - January 1) is paid time off. Enrolment in the Municipal Pension Plan is mandatory for all regular full‑time staff, with employer‑matched contributions.

Description

The primary function of this position is to provide access to authorized users of College facilities, and to keep College property secure. This candidate will be a member of the facilities team and will be required to perform minor maintenance tasks as assigned during his/her shift.

Monitor activity, patrol campus, provide information, direction, and security to the public, using tact and diplomacy are regular day to day tasks. This position will also be required to operate machinery and equipment related to the duties.

Campus Security/Maintenance

The Campus Security/Maintenance personnel are expected to have the ability to effectively manage and resolve conflict demonstrating tact and diplomacy, having excellent interpersonal skills and being an effective team member. A supportive attitude to students and a firm commitment to fostering a student‑centered environment are expected.

Qualifications
  • Completion of Grade 12, completion of formal security training (i.e., Justice Institute) with a valid BC security licence, a current Level 1 Occupational First Aid, or equivalent, certification and previous experience is required.
  • This position requires a valid Class 5 driver’s licence.
  • Individuals must be able to work with minimal supervision and be capable of lifting 50 lbs (23 kilograms).
  • Preference will be given to those who have general maintenance experience.
  • Front end loader experience is preferred (snow removal in winter months).
