Job summary

TORCH REMOTE CAMPS is seeking a Camp Manager to lead operations at remote camp sites. You will oversee mobilization, housing, kitchen services, safety programs and client relations, ensuring compliance with HACCP and provincial food safety standards.

Strong leadership and budget oversight are essential for profitable, safe camp operations. The role requires 4–5 years in large remote-camp management, English fluency, and proficiency with Word/Excel.

Qualifications

JOB DESCRIPTION: CAMP MANAGER

SUPERVISOR: FIELD SUPERVISOR or VP OF OPERATIONS

DEPARTMENT: CAMP OPERATIONS

The CAMP MANAGER is responsible for overall organization and efficient accommodation and catering operations, including but not limited to employee & client relations, performance management, administration, consumables procurement, hygiene, safety and sanitation.

Core Responsibilities:
  • Oversee all site facility operations, includes but not limited to; camp mobilization and demobilization, personnel safety, operational duties, consumables management, equipment maintenance & safety, administration duties, maintenance duties, successful commissary operation (if applicable to contract), budget responsibilities, inventory responsibilities, Labour costs, client satisfaction and successful kitchen operations, including meal service times.
  • Successful kitchen operation will include but not limited to; HACCP and Provincially Recognized Food Safety Standards, proper food portioning in accordance to Standards of Service for Torch Industries Ltd., policies & procedures, P&L budgets met or exceeded
  • Daily meetings with department leads to discuss, review and or approve day-to-day operations, assigned workloads, client relations, scheduling and staffing matters to ensure an efficient & profitable operation
  • Create and maintain a positive Safety Culture within your teams to ensure all staff adhere to provincial, client & Torch Industries Ltd.'s safety requirements, hygiene & sanitation, policies & procedures and PPE specifications at all times.
  • Lead, supervise and participate in safety meetings (incl Daily Toolbox), ensure documentation requirements are completed in a timely manner
  • Ability to understand and execute operations based on contractual language
  • Ensure all Torch Industries Ltd. staff carry out duties and responsibilities in a timely manner and comply with personal hygiene guidelines, uniform cleanliness and PPE requirements throughout shift as per standards for all. Ensure that all work areas, facility and equipment are cleaned as per standards and schedules.
  • Liaison between site staff and Torch Industries Ltd. management. Maintain consistent & professional communications with Torch Industries Ltd regarding all matters or concerns that occur, such as but not limited to; notice of personnel problems, food, equipment problems, camp shutdowns, client fluctuations or client: staff matters etc.
  • Monitor and ensure that all site rules & policies are followed to maintain client service and satisfaction, comfort & safety for all
  • Ensure all daily, weekly, monthly and period reports are accurate, well presented and submitted to Head Office in a timely & professional manner. This will include but not limited to; Daily Manager Reports of site activity, P&L statements, purchasing and receiving reports/receipts, inventory reports, commissary reports, kitchen reports (temp charts, etc.), meal sheets, time sheets, employee reports, WCB reports, etc.
  • Ensure all staff are introduced and trained with site operations & expectations of duties assigned. This includes but not limited to, training and development through coaching and mentoring, delegation of assigned job tasks, direction and assistance with personnel problems, employee evaluation and performance management.
  • Provide supervision, guidance and hands on support to all housing and kitchen staff and maintenance staff.
  • Address client relations in a professional & expedient manner within contractual commitments and or as directed from Torch Industries Ltd. to ensure client or customer satisfaction with the overall services provided
  • Health and Safety Lead for site, responsible for implementation and performance of company Health and Safety Policy and Procedures.
  • Assist, execute & close investigations in a confidential manner for accidents/incidents while following all procedures of Torch Industries Ltd.
  • Support department & client leads in achieving goals and maintaining service of site operations.
  • Ensure all staff adhere to safety requirements and guidelines with handling and use of any chemicals that are within the WHMIS classification
  • Review inventory, menu planning & grocery orders with the Chef to maintain standards of service are met and budgets/criteria followed
  • Quarterly reviews with Managing Partner, Catering and Director of Human Resources.
  • Understand KPI’s of each contract and each position under your supervision.
  • Responsible for the care and safe working order of all on site equipment & assets either owned and or operated by Torch Industries Ltd. Including site vehicles if provided.
  • Work with Torch Industries Ltd. management to achieve personal and company goals
  • Any other duties as assigned by the Managing Partner, Catering, Director of Human Resources or Field/Area Manager.

  • Leadership Skills – ability to display & supervise tasks/duties, ability to lead & provide direct constructive coaching & or discipline
  • Conflict Resolution – ability to resolve staff issues immediately to obtain positive results and meet operational requirements. Handle challenges that affect site operations (ie power generation interference, frozen water, etc)
  • Maintain professional, ongoing communication and work rapport with client & employee relations
Education and Experience:
  • Minimum 4-5 years previous experience including managing large remote camps, including 3 years experience in managerial role
  • High School diploma.
  • Post-Secondary Hospitality Management & or related training an asset.
  • Fluent & literate in the English language with reading and writing competency
  • Mandatory proficiency with computer awareness & use. Intermediate knowledge of MS Word and Excel and electronic mail is required. Previous experience with housing software systems related to the remote camp industry & POS system is an asset & preferred.
  • Awareness of all industrial kitchen equipment operations & maintenance would be an asset
  • Financial awareness & budget responsibility of contract scopes (ie P&L operations, management services) & daily operations
Personal Profile:
  • Physically fit and able to handle lifting, carrying and pulling up to 50lbs, bending and standing for extended periods of time
  • Ability to climb ladders, step stools or stairs
  • Do a combination of standing, walking, squatting or kneeling
  • Ability to perform repetitive hand work, which requires full use of both hands
  • Ability to perform work with arms at full length
  • Ability to perform duties both in indoor and outdoor working conditions
  • Must be in good health and physical condition to perform duties assigned and assist your team
  • Able to work with arms above shoulder height
Certification Requirements:
  • Valid Provincially recognized Advanced Food Safe
  • WHMIS is mandatory
  • First Aid, Standard (2 day course)
  • Skill specific training is an asset – Leadership in Safety Excellence, etc
  • Class 5 driver’s license.
