Job Description

This role supports the construction and commissioning of large-scale data centers by performing a variety of hands‑on tasks in a dynamic construction environment. You will work closely with experienced data center professionals, assisting with material handling, cable installation, site organization, and general labor. This position offers valuable exposure to structured cabling, fiber optics, copper infrastructure, and the fundamentals of data center operations, making it an excellent opportunity for individuals seeking to build a career in the rapidly growing data center industry.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with the construction and commissioning of large-scale data centers under the guidance of experienced data center professionals.
  • Support material movement, including loading, unloading, and organizing cables, tools, and equipment throughout the site.
  • Install and pull low‑voltage data cables, copper, and fiber optic cabling according to site standards and instructions.
  • Perform cable pulling through overhead cable trays, raised floors, and other pathways while maintaining clean and organized routing.
  • Use hand tools safely and effectively to complete installation, fastening, and basic assembly tasks related to cabling and infrastructure.
  • Contribute to site organization by keeping work areas clean, orderly, and free of debris in a dusty construction environment.
  • Assist with general labor duties such as moving racks, materials, and equipment as directed by site leads.
  • Work on ladders, overhead cable trays, and raised floors while adhering to safety procedures and site regulations.
  • Participate in new construction and refurbishment activities within the data center environment.
  • Perform repetitive technical tasks such as splicing and related cabling work for extended periods while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Follow verbal and written instructions clearly and communicate effectively with supervisors and team members.
  • Adapt to different shifts and living arrangements, including hotel or camp‑style accommodations, and travel to and from work sites via carpooling or buses.
  • Comply with all safety guidelines and protocols, including safe lifting practices for loads up to 50 lbs.
  • Support troubleshooting activities related to low‑voltage and data cabling as directed by more experienced technicians.
Essential Skills
  • Minimum of several months of construction experience in a related field such as electrical work, general labor, or telecommunications.

  • Physical capability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work safely on ladders, overhead cable trays, and raised floors.
  • Willingness to work in a FIFO (fly‑in fly‑out) arrangement and commit to a 3/1 rotation schedule.
  • Ability to work in dusty, air‑cooled environments that may be cold during winter months.
  • Reliability and flexibility to work different shifts, including day, evening, and overnight schedules.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • CSTS (Construction Safety Training System) or similar construction safety training certification is an asset.
  • Experience with data center infrastructure components such as power systems, cooling, racks, and cabling is preferred.
  • Previous data center experience is an advantage and will help you ramp up quickly.
  • Exposure to electrical, construction, or telecommunications projects involving low‑voltage systems.
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks such as splicing for extended periods while maintaining high accuracy.
  • Comfort working in both new construction and refurbishment environments.
  • Willingness to travel between work sites using carpooling or buses as required.
Why Work Here?

You join a team that invests in your growth by providing hands‑on experience in a high‑demand industry and the chance to learn directly from seasoned data center professionals. Travel, hotels, and flights are covered, and per diem may be available when camp accommodations are full, helping to reduce your out‑of‑pocket expenses. Rotational schedules support extended time off between work periods, and different shift options offer flexibility to match your lifestyle. You gain exposure to modern data center technologies and infrastructure, building skills that can open doors to long‑term career opportunities in a rapidly expanding field.

Work Environment

You work primarily on active construction and refurbishment sites for large-scale data centers, in an air‑cooled atmosphere that can be cold during winter and dusty due to ongoing construction activities. The role involves living in hotels or camp‑style accommodations with the crew, with travel to and from sites arranged via carpooling or buses. You may spend long periods in a single area performing splicing and cabling tasks, often using ladders and working on overhead cable trays and raised floors. The schedule includes three main shift options: a 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. shift based in Prince George with bus commuting to Mackenzie (commute time covered), a 3:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. shift based in Mackenzie, and an 11:00 p.m. to 9:00 a.m. shift also based in Mackenzie. Overtime levels vary by shift, and days off differ, with some rotations offering both Saturday and Sunday off and others providing Sunday only. Dress and personal protective equipment are consistent with a construction environment, requiring practical, safety‑focused attire suitable for working with tools, cables, and infrastructure in varying temperatures.
