Aerotek seeks a Skilled Laborer for contract placement in Calgary, AB. You will support drilling and piling operations, use hand and power tools, measure depths, and help with site cleanup.
Safety, teamwork, and reliable communication are essential as you travel between sites and work overtime during busy seasons. Expect physical work outdoors, lifting up to 50 lbs, and coordination with equipment operators.
This role involves supporting drilling and piling operations on civil, commercial, and industrial construction sites by performing a wide range of physical and technical tasks. You work closely with equipment operators and drillers, using hand and power tools, measuring equipment, and drill rigging tools to ensure safe, efficient, and accurate site work. The position requires strong communication skills, attention to safety, and the ability to work in varying outdoor conditions across multiple job sites.
You join a company that offers long-term, year-round work with limited layoffs, providing stability and consistent employment. There is a clear path for career growth into lead, foreman, and driller roles, with leadership who have advanced from this position themselves. The organization places a strong emphasis on safety and invests in excellent safety initiatives and training. Employees have access to comprehensive benefits through a group plan that includes 80% coverage for prescription drugs, vision, and basic dental, as well as an annual allowance for services such as massage, chiropractic care, and acupuncture. Additional benefits include long-term disability coverage, travel insurance, and an Employee Assistance Program offering a wide range of support services. Overtime opportunities are available, with the potential to work up to 60 hours per week during busy periods, providing the chance to increase earnings. The team environment is supportive and positive, with previous placements reporting that they enjoy the crews and workplace culture.
You work primarily outdoors on construction sites where drilling typically occurs after basic civil earthworks, making this a physically active, field-based role. Site conditions vary with weather and can be muddy and wet or dry and dusty, requiring comfort working in all seasons and environments. You are often among the first workers on site, supporting drilling and piling operations across a wide geographic area, including multiple locations in and around Calgary. Some days may involve starting on one site and finishing on another, with a mobile app providing site addresses and directions in advance. You work as part of a consistent crew, assisting equipment operators with tasks such as spotting, measuring drill depth, clearing debris, changing drill tooling, and guiding equipment onto the site. Typical hours are 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with a 30-minute lunch break, and overtime is available as needed, especially in the summer. Some job sites require mandatory Saturday work, so you must be available on Saturdays when required. The role involves regular lifting up to 50 lbs, frequent use of hand and power tools, and working in close proximity to heavy machinery such as loaders, skid steers, and concrete trucks. First-day orientation includes training on the companys app and site procedures, ensuring you understand how to access assignments and navigate to each location. Dress is typical for construction environments, requiring appropriate workwear and personal protective equipment suitable for outdoor and heavy-duty work.
